"During the summer months I enjoyed a nice cold Belgian beer on a square in Besancon. Leffe is very high quality beer. Dinner is another story. We were seated downstairs in a semi somber, abbaye like large room. They took our drink orders, but never poured the wine or water. We were a party of 8. Our food was auctioned off, serving men first. I was the last to be served. My food was barely tepd. I had no cutlery, they finally slammed it down next to me. The sauce for the meat was wrong , tough. French fries were frozen. Ice cream from a chap wholeseller . Would not recommend. French usually take pride in their excellent service. This was absolutely not the case."

The food is cafe style - but the fish and beef were both to our taste. The service was prompt, friendly and efficient. The basement level location with the stone arches added an extra interest. We would happily return to Cafe Leffe.

Sunday's most places are closed so we took a chance here. GREAT burger, excellent meat, cooked perfectly. Great flavor. Served with fries and salad. Also had Chicken with potatoes in a wine cream sauce, yummy. House red wine excellent as was Leffe Blonde beer. Very nice service.

Ate here twice with friends while visiting Besancon. I ended up getting steak both times and it was a pretty darn good steak. Staff were quite helpful, the majority I believe are bilingual in at least French and English. They're also happy to speak to the chef if you want something on the menu slightly customised - noting that they had crepes and ice cream listed as parts of separate dessert options, but not together, I asked if it was possible to get a crepe with Nutella and ice cream. A quick chat with the chefs gave the ok. Overall food was great and staff were very friendly, would eat here again.

Situated in the pedestrian plaza in the center of Beasancon, it is an old monastery. They have seating outside on the sidewalk, not good for an Indian who thinks winter is anything below 20. Then the have inside which appears chaotic, but the secret is the cellar. The stone pillars well lit and warm provide a super ambiance. The food is mixed, traditional french with variations, and you can even get burgers. The service is quick and happy. Even when full with talking customers the place does not seem noisy. The place mats with pictures of wine is a good idea than just reading the menu. A good place for an evening dinner.

I've been in Besançon for eight months, and hadn't tried it yet. Probably a good thing, or I would have been there every week! My daughter, her boyfriend, and I popped in on a whim today. We were led down to the basement, and were wowed by the decor. We got a cool table in the corner, and tried an appetizer platter. We all liked different things on it, and then we split a dessert. The kids each had alcoholic drinks ,and I had a coke, and the whole thing came to less than 50€. Not bad for Europe. Our waiter, Marc, spoke English, and was very helpful with our ordering and with recommendations. We plan to return for a more hearty dinner soon.
