"Located at the top end of Corn Street, this is quite an inviting looking coffee shop, and apparently is Bristol’s oldest, dating from 1718. That said, if you’re expecting something very “olde worlde” with lots of wonky beams, you’re going to be disappointed. It’s obviously been redeveloped over the years, and glancing up at the ceiling, instead of wonky beams, all I could see were metal cable trays, which are presumably not an original feature. A cake counter to the left offered an array of slightly more unusual options, such as carrot and pistachio or ginger and pumpkin, so if you’re after a classic Victoria Sponge, perhaps look elsewhere. I was there for lunch though, and so opted for the Cajun chicken and smashed avocado sandwich with a brioche bun. This was pretty good on the whole, with very spicy chicken and avocado that seemed more pureed than smashed. An accompanying latte was also pretty good. Overall, nothing to get overly excited about, but a solid enough offering."

Gone seriously down hill. Like warm coffee and the worst porridge I’ve ever had watery and tepid even after asking for them to put it back in to heat up. A real shame as this place used to be lovely

We had breakfast here and it was lovely to sit upstairs and enjoy the food and views. Prices were good and service was pleasant. The decor is a bit shabby and the tables could do with a clean but the food was excellent!

The coffee at this restaurant is excellent. It's conveniently located across from the Register office, making it a perfect spot for a quick cup before a ceremony. The americanos are very tasty and the service is friendly. The prices are fair as well.

Boasting about being the oldest cafe in Bristol really falls short in this case. If only the staff were as old as the cafe itself, maybe they would have a bit more manners! The girl who served us was very rude, making us feel unwelcome. The food was eventually served by a nice guy, but unfortunately it arrived lukewarm. View menu

The staff are not the most welcoming, didn’t know if it was table service or not. Seemed an inconvenience that we even came in. Most importantly everything was dirty, the tables. The sauce bottles, the stairs, toilets etc. A table next to us asked for their table to be wiped. The sauce bottles were absolutely rank to the point I opened it with a napkin. Blonde staff member cleared a table but left all the crumbs didn’t bother to wipe it. Couldn’t wait to leave.

Visited with friends on Sunday morning 6th February. The coffee was good but the breakfasts were not. I expected sourdough bread or at least a choice of bread for avocado on toast. It was supermarket brown bread, I was not offered another option. The avocado had too much chilli flakes so was too spicy. Food was expensive for what we got The room was really cold that we all kept our coats on shivering. I noticed even people in the snug room on the top floor were also shivering with coats on

Went in to have breakfast with partner first of all only get one or eggs, bacon or mushrooms with smashed avocado, breakfast was tiny and both over priced. Secondly her food arrived 10mins before mine when I mentioned it to management I got told its not fine dining and perhaps should go elsewhere if expect that level of service (ITS BASICS!! . I only asked for coffee while we waited as she would have to wait for me to eat when she had finished. Won't be back appalling service and over priced View menu

Felt quite let down by this place. I visited for the first time a few years ago back in 2019 and I loved it in there. They used to serve really nice cosy cafe food and had a good atmosphere. However when I came back to try again last month it had gone down hill. Different menu which has less stuff and less of a cafe vibe. And then when I went to order they didn’t have any of the stuff we wanted. No chicken, no tuna etc was told we could have mushroom if we wanted because they had some left. The kitchen looked unhygienic with tubs of food left open. Guacamole sat on the side not covered up and the same with butter. We left without ordering

The staff were friendly, but overall the restaurant was a bit disappointing. The upstairs section was closed for construction, which made the dining area feel cramped. I wondered if this affected our experience, as it may have limited the availability of certain menu items. I ordered the "almost full English" breakfast, which was flavorless and lacking in quality. It seemed like the sausages were cheaply sourced. I understand the challenges of keeping costs down, but sacrificing quality is not the answer. We chose to support a small, independent cafe over a chain restaurant, but in this case, we were left disappointed. Perhaps this was just a one-off experience and not indicative of the rest...

"Visited here in Sept 23 for an executive dinner that we were hosting for various senior business leaders. We booked out the whole venue, which was the perfect size and atmosphere for the intimate and exclusive feel that we wanted, plus a convenient location. The TV that shows into the kitchen was fascinating, and the record player was put to use towards the end of the evening! Caroline from the venue helped us organise the event in advance and was great to deal with. We were fortunate with the weather so were able to enjoy a welcome drinks reception out the front of the venue, and have the door open all evening to let the balmy night in. We had the 7 course taster menu and it was simply OUTSTANDING so many of our guests commented on how delicious it was, particularly the beef steak course! It was so tasty that I even enjoyed the fish dish (not usual for me! . Service on the night was exemplary, the courses were brought out at just the right intervals so you weren't waiting ages but also not being rushed. The chef came out to greet us after the final course, which was a lovely touch and meant we could thank him. Overall, we had really great feedback from our guests, everyone loved it thank you for making our event such a success! We would definitely book again, and I know a few of our guests have already recommended it to their own companies for executive dinners! Would not hesitate to recommend."
