"When you peek in through the large glass windows of Carmen it feels very warm and inviting. A combination of the warm colours and apparent animated discussions by its patrons achieves this inviting atmosphere. The food is reasonably priced and it is good tapas for that price. I haven't tried their paella yet but it looks like they have the cheapest paella prices on the menu. Usually paella takes the longest time to make and is one of the most expensive dishes in any Spanish restaurant. Even in Spain! Their Champinones al ajillo (stir-fried mushrooms in garlic and parsley sauce) is one of their best tapas. Whatever the season the mushrooms always taste great. This charming restaurant has a great atmosphere that is perfect for conversation. We shared the squid ink and prawn paella, which was both delicious and filling. The olives were exceptional and a must-try.

solid tapas. good atmosphere, cozy, beautiful decor. pitchers by sangria go well with eating (medium for 10 pfund,) and the meatballs, stylton croquettes and garlic chili garnels are all excellent. good value for money, each dish about 5-7 pfund, and two per person more than enough.

I ordered a steak, but it was served raw and I was unable to eat it. Despite having two waiters, neither of them inquired about the issue or how I prefer my steak cooked. I received no inquiry from either of the two waiters about what was wrong with the steak I couldn’t eat. If I could rate this restaurant with a negative score, I would give it a minus 5.

Relatively safe food, friendly staff and a wallet kind bill ensure that Carmen's is never empty and if you are in Clapham it's not a bad option on the night. If you're looking for great tapas however, join the 21st century. There are so many better offerings out there and simply being better than La Tasca is simply not enough, even if your market is as undiscerning as this.

I suggest that the chef should visit Spain and taste authentic Spanish cuisine, as our experience at this restaurant was a disappointment to the Spanish people and their culinary traditions. The waiter neglected to inquire about our preferences for how we wanted our meat cooked, resulting in us leaving most of our meal untouched. Furthermore, the waiter failed to inquire if there were any issues with our meal.

Friendly local restaurant situated on the busy corner of clapham common. Staff are efficient and courteous. There were enough people on a tuesday night for there to be a nice atmosphere We ordered some dishes to share. First came the breaded aubergine that came with a nice chutney. I don't know how they did it but the aubergine was really light and fluffy, not oily at all. We also had a spinach and chickpea dish which was alright but didn't have any distinct flavours Next came the pulpo which was pieces of octopus on olive oil mash. This sounded like it was delicious on the menu but was a bit of a let down. The mash had a nice texture but was a bit bland. We also got a chickpea stew...read m...
