"Me and a friend visited on a Saturday lunchtime and managed to get a spot in the lower deck of the barge. The atmosphere is cosy and the fact that the barge is floating on the water adds a unique twist and for us made the lunch feel a bit more special. The menu is varied offering hot dishes and more traditional lunch items (sandwich, salad and chips) at good value prices. Me and my friend both ordered the sandwich chips, the portion size was great for lunch and the quality of the ingredients was excellent. The staff were friendly and service was efficient. I would recommend the Castle Barge to anyone looks for a tasty meal or a drink. The cosy atmosphere is very welcoming and would suit most groups. For those with buggies or mobility issues, there is a ramp into the top deck of the barge but stairs to lower deck. There are also quite a few picnic benches outside of the restaurant which I can imagine being lovely to sit at on a summers day."

What a poor excuse for a hospitality establishment. You need to sort out your stock control after all it’s only Saturday at 4pm.

A very pleasant spot for a drink and some food. Walked along the river first. Large bar area despite being on a boat. Nice tables out the front and very pleasant atmosphere.

We stopped here on our way to Hull and it was beautiful and so novel. We both had drinks and sat downstairs. Staff were really friendly and I only wished I lived nearer to frequent. Good size car park in front of the barge . View menu

Beer very poor. We had a half each but left without finishing it. We would normally have mentioned this but there only seemed to be one person on and they were very busy. The place seemed past its best and the worst beer we had in Newark.

Stopped for lunch on a visit to Newark. Had a pizza which was tasty but a little salty may have been the pepperoni. My wife had the Lasagna which was very good. Nice quirky pub/restaurant and the staff were fabulous very friendly and helpful. We will be back.

5 out of 5. The Castle BARGE is a converted vessel, now a pub on the river Trent. A beautiful, well maintained pub which is a pleasure to experience. This vessel has a wide choice of drinks and food items to enjoy. The food is fresh and tasty. The toilets are well maintained, and there are plenty of seats to relax with more seating outside in the garden next to the car park. View menu

A hot muggy afternoon in Newark on Trent was made complete when we decided to eat at the above .This massive ex grain barge is equipped with a super below deck bar from where all things come.Customers may drink or dine above below deck or on the tables set out on the tow path.Drinks are well priced and presented by a friendly welcoming staff.Food is ordered by table number and delivered efficiently. The food is good and the Barges exterior decor makes the experience memorable.

A fun venue, in a great location owned and run by lovely people! They hosted and catered our wedding reception at short notice and we couldn't have had a better experience. Frank (owner), Judy (manager) and their team were all lovely and bent over backwards to meet our needs before, during and after our reception and we wouldn't hesitate to return ourselves or recommend them to others. Whatever the occasion The Castle Barge is a great venue that will make your guests smile...even if you're just popping in for a drink...we'll definitely be back.

"I’ve just realised I’ve been visiting The Beck for over 20 years now for both drinks and meals with friends and family and I’ve never written a review! The Beck for me is home from home and I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve visited. They say a business is only as good as it’s staff, and maybe this is why The Beck has lasted so long with a reputation for a relaxed atmosphere good food and good service. The staff here are friendly, caring and professional, I’ve never been anywhere where I felt so at home as The Beck. Edward, Julie, Theresa, Kieran and not forgetting Trish in the kitchen make the place what it is! In 20 years I’ve never had a bad meal here, the food is excellent, and today did not disappoint. I was treating my parents and wife to a belated Mother’s Day and Dad’s birthday meal out, I had the lamb roast which was sublime and my dad had the blade of beef which in his words was “melt in your mouth” good! My Wife had a chilli and my Mum had the flat bread, which were also very nice and portions are plentiful. My daughter has Dairy and Soya allergies and wanted sausages and mash however the mash had butter in it so they made it with chips instead, she also cleared her plate! If you want to go somewhere with a nice warm friendly atmosphere and excellent food at very reasonable prices then The Beck is definitely worth a visit."
