"Having left Northumberland that morning skipping breakfast, we were in desperate need of some hot food by the time we arrived. Having a stroll around Malton and Norton, there didn’t appear to me to be that many restaurants or pubs opening offering food, it seemed to be mostly cafes. We dipped into here because we thought we’d get a pub meal, unfortunately it was mainly toasties, scones, sandwiches and soup. The hot offering was pulled pork with Nachos, they were okish. I went for the chicken, bacon and Mayo sandwich. I guess I thought I’d get a chicken breast, some streaky bacon slices and maybe lettuce and mayo. What I got was some heart attack inducing, calorie laden creamy chicken monstrosity. 80% Mayo, 20 %chicken, 0% bacon. I did ask the girl behind the bar that they forgot to add the baconand was told it was all chopped up. I will wager my two children that there was NO bacon in that sandwich whatsoever, the only texture was a stalk of a slice of rocket or other green leaf thing. Now I’m not a chef, but I’m pretty sure that if you ask anyone off the street to make a sandwich with three ingredients, it’s something they could manage. Thinking whoever was in the kitchen that day could do with some catering school experience. This establishment excels in hiring someone who can take the basics and mess it up spectacularly. So speaking of messing things up, it took me three attempts at paying the bill. I was first told when I went to the bar it was £20. I thought it cheap but I just assumed they didn’t charge me for the sandwich as it wasn’t what I wanted. Before leaving I picked our glasses up to leave on the bar, only to be greeted with a “I’ve not charged you for drinks, it’s an extra £8” I guess no niceties here. I handed over two £5 notes, as I waited for my change which took forever, she then turned around and said “it’s not £8, it’s £14” Incompetence rules rife here. No one is infallible but this was ridiculous.; not only was I annoyed at being charged for ingredients which didn’t exist, I seemed to then have to jump through hoops to settle the bill. Without doubt, the worst food I’ve had in a number of years and worst place I’ve been to in Malton it won’t surprise anyone to say I won’t be back, and I’m sure they won’t want me back anyway."

Had a nice glass of wine in the back yard/beer garden. Place had a nice local vibe. The other people seemed to know each other with everyone saying hi as they came and went. Very pleasant staff

A hidden gem home made soup , homemade warm scones , friendly staff. Don’t let the decor put you off . We had a cracking lunch here and will favour it above some of the more pretentious locations next time.

Very friendly pub/bar. Excellent home cooked food at extremely reasonable price. We had very good coffee. Also shared soup, delicious home made curried carrot, a cheese scone, also delicious, with extra grated cheese and pickle and a lovely little salad. All for £5.50! Absolute bargain! It seems like a friendly community hub, very busy, which is not surprising! View menu

Lovely pub, nice cosy decor. Great beers-our favourite, Brixton! I wanted to write this review as a Thankyou for what did for me this weekend. I left my handbag in there, which contained quite a few valuables plus some cash. A staff member found it and kept it safe for me until I realised the next day. Such relief to have it returned, and shows how trustworthy the staff are for it to be untouched. Thanks again.

Desperately needed a cup of tea when we turned up in the gorgeous quaint Malton this afternoon. We sat in the garden due to having our small dog with us. The young lady behind the bar was extremely helpful and told us she would bring a pot of tea for two out to us. Well, the tea tasted absolutely wonderful and the pot size was extremely generous. The young lady was very polite&pleasant. Malton is absolutely delightful.

Great little find in Malton. Friendly helpful staff, attentive and informative. We had a lovely twin room overlooking the courtyard. Loved the comfortable quilt and pillows, clean and comfortable, great nights sleep. Plenty of tea/coffee/milk and biscuits and two bottles of water. The pub does great food and beer/cocktails etc, the cheese scones were great. Can highly recommend this place for a reasonably priced stay in Malton, not far from the station and a short walk to local shops, bars etc… View menu

Just called in for Nachos as had them before as great, not disappointed. However ordered a half of Diet Coke and my wife had water, when settling bill I was charged £3.40 for the half of coke I queried this and was told by bar person I always ask if you want a half or pint as pint is only 50p more,I said you did not add the snippet of pint only 50p more. I feel they are just out to rob you by charging so much for a half and not advising small increase for the pint. Bar person had permanent smirk on face when pointing this out, we will never return despite good nachos and would recommend you all to ask for drinks menu before ordering.

If you are a local more than welcome. If you are a tourist putting money into the economy NO. We went to this establishment were enjoying a pleasant drink chat then in walked the BOTOX crowd ignorant people who obviously thought they were better than anyone else. One if the group thought it was acceptable to just park a high chair wherever they wanted with no regard for the people behind him. Then one of the women thought she could look at us like dirt. The staff pandered to the locals with no regard to other paying customers. PLEASE AVOID THIS PLACE ON A WEEKEND AFTER 4 PM WHEN THE LOCAL PRETENTIOUS PEOPLE ARRIVE AS YOU ARE NOT WELCOME.

"We arrived and walked into the pub.. there wasn't any sort of reception area.. the lady serving showed us our room. The room smelt damp.we went out for dinner said we would be back 10ish pm, we got back at 10.08pm. It was raining. We tried to get in everywhere was locked up.. we were getting wet and cold, we honked the car horn and rang the door bell.. nothing, so we phoned the property. No one answered it went to an answer machine,we sat back in the car , we were soaked and stuck outside..no way to get in.. Eventually a man walked from the bottom field and asked if we were the residents stuck outside? Apparently his manager had rang him to go have a look, he made it clear to us that he wasn't suppose to be working till Monday but he has had to come up to let us in... he let us in and locked up and off he went. My brother realised then he had left his phone in the car so went to get it but we were locked in. The fact that we were now locked in was very concerning as to fire and safety regulations, hoe would you get out in the situation.. but anyway atleast we were indoors and vould go to bed albeit that the room smelt so strongly of damp, but we had no choice, we were out in the middle of nowhere , which we thought would be a nice place to stay, but unfortunately not.... we had 3 flights of stairs to our room..a damp room, and no access after 10pm although we had said what time we were returning..we would have eaten there if the meals had been reasonably priced. Really not the best place to stay.."
