"Me and two of my colleagues had the pork knuckle and i must say that this part was good. All the rest not good at all, the stuff next to the meat and the dessert who in all my experience with Germany is the warst ever. The appel strudel in fact was a piece of fruit fried in oil i think, with vanilla something from box and with whipped cream from tube( put under my eyes on the bar). Another dessert of another colleague had something what i connsider was stale bred with the same vanilla stuff and whipped cream. Oh yes, the draught beer excelent, like all the beers i drunk in Germany. Overall i will not go there again."

This is a good place to go with your friends and taste typical German cuisine and beers. Flammkuchen are simply delicious and quite huge!

Had a few beers (yes, they had Oktoberfest beer!) and Brezel. After that, decided to stay for diner. Good menu with lots of typical dishes, good stuff!!

In town for a day with my US colleague and wanted to expose him to some local German food. Wiener schnitzel with all the sides and local flammkuchen - very thin crust "pizza" Overall a good experience.

Good cuisine, typical German dishes, wooden furniture, good prices, average staff, I like especially the Schnitzel day on Thursdays. Very tasty. I don't like the environment, too many dangerous looking types around the place.

Decent pub, makes authentic schnitzel. Most of them served without sauce, which makes it a dry experience. Music hammering out of the speakers switch from Vengaboys to Sensa Una Donna. All in all on par with other simple restaurants in Essen.

Visited the reastaurant with 3 friends expecting a good typical German cousine. The reastaurant has a pleasant atmosphere but we were not very impressed with the food. We had schnitzels and ribs and they were kind of bland. Had good beers though

Suggested by our hotel receptionist as we arrived after the hotel eating facilities had closed. One of our party had the Pork Knuckle, which was declared to be excellent, another had steak, which was good, and another had Flammekuechen which was good also, if a little too salty.

Went with the family on a Sunday afternoon, very quiet (we were pretty much the only people there) and the drinks weren't the quickest. Huge Schnitzel portions, which were quite salty, but overall the family enjoyed it. Ticked a traditional German meal off the list for our guests.

Bit of a disappointing experience. Large atmospheric bar in an ideal location, staff are friendly offering good service, beer as you would expect is also more than pleasant. Just the food is poor! The worst schnitzel I have ever had in Germany and my colleague ordered a large plate of ribs that were basically cremated! Sent them back no problems and genuine apologies but the replacement was not much better far too tough to enjoy he simply left the lot!The quality of the food explains why the place was more than half empty and a level of ratings that bearing in mind the location should be much better?
