"Massively busy, Michelin recommended Austrian restaurant. Bread and butter spread were good as was the beetroot soup. My caramelized goat's cheese starter was clever but let down by over oily, over dressed lettuce salad. My wife's Stroganoff and spaetzli just adequate but my schnitzel was...a disgrace. A bit of background here...lam Viennese by birth, raised and fed by a mother that would berate our butcher if the veal she was presented with wasn't top quality and wasn't perfectly cut. I also appreciate that at the price point of this restaurant expecting premium milk veal too big an ask. The meat being used however, though veal at some (distant) time in the past was grey, tough stringy and flavourless. Meat to breading ratio (in flavour of the breading) completely wrong with no cohesion between the two making it difficult and unpleasant to eat. The accompanying potato salad wasn't lukewarm as advertised but was mushy, too wet with a slimy mouthfeel. Also no cucumber salad to be seen. Have eaten better schnitzel at chain restaurants where often pork is offered in lieu of veal just because quality pork is a cost effective alternative to the always more expensive quality veal. Finally, if my schnitzel on the day had been fried in lard as it ought to be, l would eat my proverbial hat. Good wine and drink list and adequate, though rushed and inattentive service with used glasses and bottles remaining uncleared. Michelin needs to re visit and reassess."
