"we went to the feathers when we parked over the street and it said coffee shop outside we had a very pleasant cup coffee. we also had a good chat with the waitress, which we had in a quiet moment something from. the place told. points of information (1) Tuesday is a slow day in helmsley and not everywhere was open, we had over one of the open stumblings. and (2) there is a lot of good quality carving in the hotel and it is a bit fun to search it many of the famous maus man as well as beaver and fish carnival. if they are a really nice customer, they can see the mouse coming from a hole on the servier side of the bar! very pleasant stop recommended."

Lovely room and great food. Staff were really friendly. We had two dogs with us who were spoilt with biscuits and lots of attention. The bar was welcoming and the food in the restaurant fantastic. The duck cassoulet is lovely . Thanks

The small bar/pub in this hotel watered down the Bombay Sapphire gin in our G&Ts on 29 Dec. When we raised the issue, we tasted the gin direct from the open bottle behind the counter. It was almost all water. The publican became aggressive towards...us and threw us out. View menu

I visited today with my daughter we had a warm welcome great service. Lovely surroundings. It’s been a while since we’ve eaten here had forgotten just how fabulous the food is! We both had braised steak which was so tender and tasty.. we really enjoyed it. We had the sticky toffee pudding for dessert again it was just perfect! Thank you we’ll be back soon

Set in the market square of one of Yorkshire's finest towns, this is an excellent place to eat (and doubtless to stay also). It was quite busy, but the staff handled everything with aplomb and were very pleasant with it. Theakston bitter could not be...faulted. My wife drooled over her Duck Cassoulet and I was equally happy with my pie of the day (steak) An exceedingly pleasant experience all round.

We had a wonderful stay at The Feather's Hotel. Our room was spacious, clean, and very comfortable. Situated in the charming village of Helmsley, the hotel overlooks the town square. The front bar, with its low beams and Mouseman carvings, exudes character and is a fantastic spot to enjoy a drink and soak up the ambiance of a traditional English pub with accommodation. We would definitely stay here again! View menu

We booked online in advance for 4 however there was a mix up with only 2 reservations, this was quickly resolved and we were seated in the orangery. Our drinks order was taken quickly as was our food order. We all thoroughly enjoyed our food...and found it to be of a high quality both ingredients and presentation. The service was attentive without being overwhelming. A particular mention to the manager from Northern Ireland who was delightful and an asset to the restaurant. We will definitely return the next time we are in Helmsley

I made a reservation for afternoon tea with a friend after seeing positive reviews, but it turned out to be a disappointment. The food was average at best and nothing to write home about. The low point was a scone that was so hard I thought it was plastic. I later realized it must have been microwaved for too long. They replaced it with another one that was only slightly better. The scone is the highlight of an afternoon tea for me, so I was quite disappointed. The true test is whether you would return, and in this case, the answer is a definite no.

"The problem began with our arrival. We are 3 adults in our mid-60s and we had already climbed one set of steps to access the bar in the pub. We were escorted to our room up two more flights of narrow stairs. On entering our room, we could smell the damp in the room and discovered mould on walls behind furniture and in the corners of the window frames. We checked the prices of the evening meals on offer and there wasn't enough variety for our party and they were quite expensive. So we decided to eat out. I asked what time the pub closed and was told, when the last customer leaves. I thought that was a bit vague so I said that we would be back at 10-ish. We arrived back just after 10pm to find all entrances to the pub were fully locked up and we were unable to get in. I called the pub and, after a while, my call went to voicemail with a message that there was no one to answer my call. I left a voicemail, this was followed by another message to say that there was no one to respond to my voicemail! My party had got back into the car as it was raining and I drove to the front of the pub and sounded my horn for some time then drove to the back of the pub. At this point, a man appeared saying he had a message to come and let us in so, finally, we got in to the pub to access our room. We had an uncomfortable night but managed to get up for the early breakfast (great breakfast! and check-out. We raised all the damp and mould issues with the man who had let us in and, as one of us was asthmatic, told him that we would be leaving a poor review of the room and that they shouldn't book that room out to any one else until the issues were resolved."
