"Arriving at this rather depressing corner of industrial Smethwick, expectations of good food were rather low. The rather shabby building on a street corner surrounded by old factory units and semi-derelict buildings isn’t the most inviting place to dine. Nevertheless, and keeping an open mind, we went in and found the place empty and in semi-darkness although it was quite early in the evening. Our host was rather indifferent to our presence making no effort to offer us menus. We eventually found one and ordered one of their signature dishes, Amritsar Kulcha, as one of our starters. This had been recommended to us and it was really was very tasty. I would have this again anytime. The Nan and the Rice were also very good. Sadly, that’s as good as it got. The Fish Pakora was very dry and tasted as though it had been cooked and re-heated, the Keema was virtually tasteless. The Chicken Curry was just about okay but really nothing special. The only draft beer on offer was one of the UK-made pseudo-Indian lagers but the barrel was empty so we were forced to buy bottled beers. They charged us £5 for a 300ml bottle of lager, the stuff you buy at the supermarket for little over a quid. This is disgraceful. All in all, a not very inviting meal in a not very inviting restaurant"

My associate and I enjoyed a light lunch here. He chose vegetarian whilst I went down the butter chicken route. No frills, tasty cuisine that 'hits the spot '.

Delicious food , service ok, celebrated my birthday there. They played good music although kept turning it off. Cleanliness could be better, prices about £5/£6 a dish!

What an amazing food. Almost filled up to neck. Portion size is good so order with caution. Amritsarii naan is mind blowing. I had this taste after 13 years, never anywhere in UK.

everything we ordered for lunch was amazing. Poppadoms, lamb briyani, Kerala chicken, naan and masala tea. meat was all super tender, sides sauces were fresh and complimented well. The server was also very attentive and didn’t miss a beat. highly recommended View menu

The decor of the restaurant was terrible and unkempt. It immediately turned me off from trying the food. Although some dishes were decent, the chicken tasted old. I would not return to this place again. It's perplexing why they can't maintain cleanliness, as even the cups and plates felt dirty.

We have visited Golu Da Dhaba several times, but have noticed a decrease in the taste and quality of the food and service lately. This used to be our go-to place for office parties, but that is no longer the case. Hopefully, it will return to its former quality soon. We give it 3 stars for the good food we have had there in the past. View menu

Ate here after mooring on the local canal. This was the only place to eat. First the good points: food is great and they swept the floor under our table before we sat down after we asked them to. The negatives outweigh the positives. The place is filthy, food up the wallpaper, radiators black with dust and your feet stick to the floor. They charged 5 pounds for half a lager which was supposed to be bottled Stella. No bottle and no price list for drinks. Don't go here if you want a clean restaurant and a pint, do go if you want good food and don't care about hygiene and being ripped off for your alcohol.

"The food is really enjoyable. Some of the meat can be a bit dry in parts but generally speaking it's quite good. Is it better than what you'd get at the average chippy? Not for what it costs. Ordering two box meals and a couple of sides got the cost up to £50 with charges. Considering a large mixed meat in naan at my local chip shop is £7, it's incredibly expensive. There's far too much waste which really needs to be addressed. Every food item is at least two layers of packaging deep. With a box meal you have the outer corrugated cardboard box, then all dividers inside, then the kebab sandwich is in a box of its own, then it's in a foil wrapper, then it's in a paper wrapper. It's all needless waste and when we're all trying to be more conscious of our carbon footprint this just isn't required. There are some nice things that just aren't replicated elsewhere, their kebab bread is fantastic and very similar to a traditional Turkish pide. Their sauces are really good too. Full of flavour and balanced well with the meat but I will say there's never enough of it. Three little poxy pots is all you get.The fries are average. Nothing remarkable about them. The spicy fries are a tasty addition but this option does bump up the price but again, perfectly average.Overall I'd recommend that it's worth trying at least once but the prices are way over valued and quantity in some areas lack. If they cut down on all the needless packaging they could even bring the prices down but £15-20 for a box meal (one can of pop, one kebab sandwich, one fries and two spring rolls) it's a bit of a joke."
