"Called in on spec on a Saturday lunchtime and we were lucky enough to find a table. Other folk weren't so lucky, but were told by surly staff that they didn't know if there were any free tables and sent the prospective customers to go upstairs and look! Surely a simple CCTV camera could be used to save folk moving around an already small building only to walk out disappointed? Service was on the slower side of acceptable and the drinks (a tea and Mocha) were really good. Food was good quality, but fairly meagre portions. The ploughman's lunch cost £12 with a £2 surcharge to add ham. This ham was tasty, but was barely a slice. Overall, not bad but we'll be looking for other places to eat in Malton."

Wonderful place to enjoy a delicious cheese scone, scrambled eggs on toast and loose leaf tea in a cosy and comfortable environment.

Yet another small business exploiting healthier lifestyles and people who are lactose intolerant. An additional 60p for oat milk in coffee is like sticking two fingers up to VEGANS.... it's offensive!

My wife and I stopped by for a coffee and scone while celebrating a special birthday in York. The service was outstanding, the fruit scone was delicious with the perfect amount of jam and cream, and the complimentary cup of filter coffee was a nice bonus. The little details like table flowers, framed photos, paintings for sale, and extra paper towels in the washrooms really made our experience extra special. View menu

Very disappointing! Cosy open fire downstairs but it was full so you have to schelp upstairs, find a table and schelp downstairs again to order. It was chilly (both upstairs and the staff’s attitude). Ordered poached eggs on toast x 2 with bacon. Easy! Square shaped sliced cheap bread, scant butter, burnt toast, 2 rock hard eggs, bacon burnt to a crisp. One very bitter flat white and one weak and willing filter coffee. Pretty awful. I definitely won’t go again.

We were warmly greeted by the friendly and courteous staff at The Hidden Monkey cafe. The menu offered a variety of light bites, cakes, and specials to choose from. My husband ordered a bacon and sausage sandwich, and I opted for a delicious feta, hummus, and sundried tomato granary sandwich (which was fantastic). The cakes also looked tempting. The staff were very polite and welcoming, unlike another place we had visited earlier and left. We would definitely love to come back.

"We arrived and walked into the pub.. there wasn't any sort of reception area.. the lady serving showed us our room. The room smelt damp.we went out for dinner said we would be back 10ish pm, we got back at 10.08pm. It was raining. We tried to get in everywhere was locked up.. we were getting wet and cold, we honked the car horn and rang the door bell.. nothing, so we phoned the property. No one answered it went to an answer machine,we sat back in the car , we were soaked and stuck outside..no way to get in.. Eventually a man walked from the bottom field and asked if we were the residents stuck outside? Apparently his manager had rang him to go have a look, he made it clear to us that he wasn't suppose to be working till Monday but he has had to come up to let us in... he let us in and locked up and off he went. My brother realised then he had left his phone in the car so went to get it but we were locked in. The fact that we were now locked in was very concerning as to fire and safety regulations, hoe would you get out in the situation.. but anyway atleast we were indoors and vould go to bed albeit that the room smelt so strongly of damp, but we had no choice, we were out in the middle of nowhere , which we thought would be a nice place to stay, but unfortunately not.... we had 3 flights of stairs to our room..a damp room, and no access after 10pm although we had said what time we were returning..we would have eaten there if the meals had been reasonably priced. Really not the best place to stay.."
