"Friends happened to pass this little gem on the way to a weekend in North Wales. Once they met us they raved at how brilliant the food, land lord and prices were and insisted we visited on our return home. We called and booked in for Sunday lunch, and it did not disappoint!! The Sunday roast was absolutely delicious and 2x courses for £14 was beyond incredible value for money! We had a choice of 2 meats which were both perfectly cooked and a great selection of vegetables which were all delicious. If you're nearby or in the area I highly recommend dropping in for a visit!"

Lovely food, very good value. Landlord jovial and friendly Food service curt and not friendly. This will stop me going to Horse and Jockey in the future.

This is probably the best pub lunch we have ever had. The landlord was friendly and had a good sense of humor. The food was fantastic and we highly recommend it. 5 stars!

Usually here most Wednesdays evenings for the jazz. Excellent Dragon Band. Normally a choice of two guest beers. Friendly staff and regulars. Nice atmosphere on jazz nights !

I want to express my thanks to Dave, Heather, and Zara for a wonderful roast dinner and dessert. The meal was delicious and the social distancing measures in place were very good. I highly recommend this village pub for its fantastic food.

My wife and I were on holiday near Welshpool and prior to visiting the above telephoned the Inn to make a booking so glad we did, it really was an impromptu booking not having WIFI and unable to read reviews it was just hit and miss.On Sunday 9th June 2019 we visited and had the carvery it was First Class and the staff though busy were genuinely pleased to serve.

I visited a charming local pub with a friendly atmosphere run by Heather and Dave. They were warm and welcoming. We tried their Sunday Roast, which was one of the best I've had. They offered a choice of two meats, and we decided to have both. The seasonal vegetables were also delicious. The dessert options were fantastic as well. I will definitely be returning to this pub.

3 of us were on our way to meet some friends and were desperately trying to find somewhere for a bite to eat. Third time lucky we stumbled upon this little GEM. We were instantly welcomed by Dave and his wife, the food was insane not to mention £3 for a gin!! It was so good we stopped back in on our way home on the Sunday for a carvery best. Decision. EVER!! It was full of locals which says it all, I would recommend this to anyone in the area!

A friendly local pub, Dave was a great host when we visited the pub the previous day before we booked Sunday lunch especially following the 5 star reviews on trip adviser, we were not disappointed. At the carvery I chose the beef with my wife selecting the turkey and beef, with a good selection of vegetables we really enjoyed our Sunday lunch. We really enjoyed our visit to the Horse and Jockey, added to the tales of a mysterious ghost appearing around the pub, it’s well worth a visit to the pub, if you are in the area on a Sunday.

"Our room faced the front of the hotel, and while the village was quiet with only two pubs and a small corner store, it seemed to be a shortcut for heavy vehicles speeding downhill at night, with headlights constantly illuminating our room. We also found out that the hotel closes in the evening if it's not busy, and the front door may be locked as early as 10 PM, requiring a code for re-entry. The internet service was poor; even standing just outside the front door, I had no reception and couldn't call the emergency numbers posted there. It appears that the quality of the rooms varies significantly, with some having been upgraded while others are less desirable, including our own. When we questioned our bill because we didn't think the room was worth £140, we were told that since we had booked through Charming Escapes, we should take it up with them, as the hotel receives only a fraction of what we paid. This made us feel like second-class guests, especially since it seemed we were stuck in a low-quality room. The standard rate for a double room is £90, and if I were to rate our experience like on the TV show "Four in a Bed," I would say £50 a night would have been generous. Previous reviews also mentioned an issue with the door handle and the ability to lock the room, which had not been fixed. If you’re just looking for a place to dry off your hiking boots, this hotel might suffice, but I wouldn't recommend staying here again. It has a lot of potential, and thankfully, we had a wonderful evening at The Devonshire Arms just across the street—it felt like a whole different experience. It seems the staff at Charles Cotton have simply given up."
