"We found this restaurant by Trip Advisor and GPS (we call her "Tante" meaning "Auntie" in German) while visiting Stift Goettweig above it. Walked in without reservations on a busy Sunday night. If you are anywhere in the Wachau, Schickh is worth a long drive for dinner. The building is tucked in a narrow, tree filled canyon over a tiny bridge and across railroad tracks. It is our idea of a hospitable country inn, with indoor and heated outdoor dining and very artful decor. The food was flat out wonderful! We had pumpkin soup, homemade head cheese in aspic, pumpkin spaghettini, and traditional poached schnitzel in broth. The pumpkin dishes were fabulous. My dear wife, who has a distinctly German palate and really likes sour, was absolutely speechless about the aspic appetizer! The pork was tender and very subtly flavored, and the applesauce accompaniment was the best I have ever eaten. Good service, an encyclopedic wine list indicative of the region, and a lovely crowd completed a really special evening which was all the better for the spontaneity that was possible via Trip Advisor."

The food was average, service unfriendly. Kitchen smell all over the restaurant room we were seated in.

I really can recommend this restaurant. The service was okay and forced friendly. The cost-performance ratio was so-so. Ive eaten better in less expensive restaurants but the atmosphere is worth a try. View menu

This restaurant used to be hidden gem with attendive staff, big portions and tasty food. Unfortunately it is past. The staff ignore you, everything takes long time of waiting, the food is nothing special and portions are smaller. Quality went very down, but the prices stayed high. It is pity.

We got this place recommended by our host and have to say it was a good tip. Starters were on the house, veggies, bread and dip, all very fresh. For mains we had steak, which was cooked to perfection and the meat was local, obviously very good quality. But the star was the dessert. Creme brullee with eggnog and a fruit bowl, very good. The only downside would be that the place would deserve an overhaul regarding the ambience, or at least a bit of refreshment.

Very nice restaurant in the valley. As you cross a narrow bridge the location is on the left side. There are available parking space with no costs. Surrounded by nature and trees. Although the location has a train line exactly next to the garden area, the trains are small ones and do not pass trough very often so its not disturbing at all. Worth to try the location. The food was very good, the waiters pleasant and the prices average. The restaurant inside is clean and warm/friendly with a very relaxing garden with small barbecue cottage (think that it can be rented). If you are in the area, feel free to try it! View menu

I've been here twice -once in the damp winter with a business contact and once on a glorious summer's evening with my son. It was the railway carriage that gave it away as the same place as I just wouldn't have recognised it as such what with the landscape being so different between the two seasons. This place serves Austrian cuisine at its finest and great local wines from the Wachau. Just a delight from start to finish and not stupid prices either. I'll definitely be back with the rest of the family. Sitting outside and enjoying the unique location amongst the woods and by the railway branch line is a real treat.
