Le Comptoir du Marche

An excellent restaurant run by a couple with four years experience in Hotel in Lymington and with it perfect English. A varied menu with everything cooked to perfection and served with a smile. A pleasure to be there.

Popped in after a shopping trip to the market. Set menu for 18 euros. Each course was beautiful presented and just the right portico to be able to enjoy each course. A carafe if house red completed a very enjoyable experience. Will certainly be returning.

Stopped there for lunch while walking around Jonzac, primarily because they speak English! That however is not the reason we'd go back. The food was simply fabulous. Good simple well prepared food that was served by friendly staff. Definitely one we will go back to.

This place has never failed to deliver exceptional cuisine and great service without fail, time after time. The most discerning people frequent this place rather than so many of others who believe they are haut cuisine, but forget the customer!They should have a Michelin star.

I had read the review about Le Comptoir du Marche and can say that I am glad that we were able to get a table. We just dropped lucky on a Friday night for a table as the rest of the restaurant was booked,and were made to feel welcome as soon as we walked through the door. The food and the service were exceptional and if we are ever in the area again I will definitely be making a return visit.

that is a very nice restaurant. they speak excellent English. we enjoyed our meal outside on Monday for lunch. it is a pre-fix menu with some choices. for the appetizer we decided to “Seafood ”. my man liked it better than. because it tasted like a squid for me. for the main course we selected the merlu. it was a wonderful white fish course. to dessert, fruit cheesecake. we also had a 50 cl rose wine. it was also very delicious. our meals amounted to 30 e for both of us. we can recommend eating here if you ever find yourself in jonzac.

Took a pair of ex-pats here for a classic French Sunday lunch – on arrival pleased to see that the restaurant was ‘Complet’. Nothing pretentious about the place, no table linen for instance, just excellent cooking with friendly service, although the two waitresses were only just managing to cope – pieces of French toast dropped on serving a starter were not replaced. The day’s special, a cod dish, was superb as were the steaks ordered by the unadventurous. Starters to a similar high standard, particularly the fish soup. Short wine list with reasonable prices, including an excellent Burgundy.Don’t be put off by the ‘shop front’ appearance, this restaurant represents real value for money.

so the good pieces some really good eating. 64 grad egg with black bauch; hake with a Bramble sauce; black medaillons. all very well cooked, beautifully presented and well served. there is only something missing, especially after so many gushing reviews on tripadvisor, and not being able to book four times in the run of a month had built up expectations. your heart drops when the nightly menu is laminated, it will obviously be repeated again and again. the decor inside is functional, but dates a bit like the black medallions. beautiful meat, beautifully presented, but obviously sous vide with an intense sauce. 15 years ago. the kitchen seemed to be a modern sparkle, a little joie de vivre mi...

I ate here with my husband on Tuesday night 20th June - his birthday. I rang from Ireland a few days before to book a table and the girl on the phone was lovely.On arrival we were welcomed by the owner Amandine - she spoke English and had worked in Ireland a few years ago - her husband is the Chef. The restaurant is beautifully decorated, the menu has something for everyone and the staff were very helpful. We ate Entrecôte Steak which was cooked exactly as we asked with very good French fries and a salad - all served on a wooden platter - it looked very pleasing to the eye and tasted even better.
