"This was our 2nd visit to Carcassonne during our holidays, the first time we were unable to get seated anywhere for food, thanks to four very rude Americans who pushed myself and my daughter out of the way as we made our way to a table! Anyway I digress, we returned for a further visit and look round and my husband wanted to try the local Cassoulet, after walking around for some time we settled for this lovely Bistro and very pleased about it we were! The first waiter almost put me off, he was 'friendly' but seemed hurried and 'unhappy', he took our orders, the kids settled for burger and chips and ham and cheese sandwich and chips they were both really happy, my daughter felt the burger was the best she had had, high praise indeed! My husband and I settled for the set meal for just over 13 euros each. We had the goats cheese salad (this is where we lost the 1st waiter), as he served our dishes my goats cheese on toast went sliding off the plate with the force he put it down, I was quicker and caught it, he did apologise and scuttled off, enter waiter number two, who was great! The goats cheese salad was beautiful! Very well dressed and the goats cheese was lovely and creamy, the cassoulet I was worried about as it has duck and I'm not a fond lover of duck, I needn't have worried it was gorgeous, the duck was cooked to perfection, the sausage a little over cooked but tasty non the less, the whole dish was amazing and I would definitely order that again, for dessert I ordered a simple fruit salad, it was mainly apple in juice but still very refreshing after the rich meal, my husband asked for camembert and he did get this but it would have been nice with some grapes and bread on the side, what he got was a plain quarter of a round, very rich on it's own, but I had some fruit left so he pinched some of that. Waiter number two was very entertaining when serving and the kids loved him. Would we return, most definitely!"

The staff was professional friendly and the food so good, we returned the next night. Ambiance was medieval, yet inviting.

Had a wonderful meal on a very busy evening for them. We had the meatballs and the cassoulet, although the cassoulet proved to be too much for one. The restaurant was packed on a very warm summer evening but the staff managed without fluster.

We had the lunch set menu, pate, cassoulet and a take on Eton mess, delicious strawberries and cream. All three courses were excellent. We found the service very welcoming, friendly and attentive. A great local lunch, not too busy and slightly away from the crowds.

We were recommennded to eat here by some frineds - but to be honest we found the service really slow - worse than usual for france - the food was ok but to be honest we ate better at other establishment in carcasonne, overall nothing better than average im afraid, wouldnt go out of my way to go back here.

Don 't think of the salads here as punishments on your diet. You will get a delicious plate of greens, tasty tomatoes or other vegetables, with light and well-made dressing with either pate, local hams, cheeses or whatever type of salad you ordered. The bread is great, too--you leave well-fed and full of good feeling for the local ingredients.

My husband and 16 month old daughter are lunch here on a Sunday. The terrace was lovely - shaded with olive trees and a nice break from the feeling of restaurants catering to tourists en masse. The they had a child sized cassoulet (regional specialty not often on the kids menu) which was perfect for our daughter and it was authentic. Our meals were also delicious, would definitely go back! They also had a proper high chair for our daughter, which makes dining so much easier!

We chose this restaurant because of tripadvisor reviews and because it is slightly away from the main hustle and bustle. We sat in the lovely shady terrace area where there was a good ambience and the staff were really friendly. There was a good children's menu but they were also flexible to change elements. My husband and I had the more expensive of the two set menu options at €28 and all the food was excellent and good value. The starter of courgette and goats cheese crumble was surprisingly good and the cassoulet was delicious though SO filling. Don't even attempt to eat it all. Ice creams for dessert were gorgeous.

Five stars for the cassoulet! I understand how another reviewer could feel the servers were rude, but I just found them a little indifferent. No bother, really, because -- despite a few smokers -- this pleasant outdoor bistro (claiming to be the oldest continuous restaurant in Carcassonne) knows how to make the best cassoulet. First, there is something magical about the duck; I suspect it is smoked and/or grilled initially (along with the sausage), and then the skin is -- almost a la Peking Duck -- crispy! Nice work chef! Meat nearly falling off the bone, baked again in the largest dish I found in Southern France, the beans and sauce made this a perfect choice for me. It was also reasonably...

Le Trencavel is a charming bistro with its charming owner Arnaud. The bistro is located next to Best Western Hotel le Donjon in the centre of la Cite, but its tranquil location is very welcome when you want to escape from the hectic touristic part of Carcassonne. Outside a small terrace with a big olive tree in the middle and grapevines; inside a modern and creative interior. Arnaud is a very charming host, who takes time to talk to the guests and makes you feel very welcome. The menu is simple but the dishes offered are very tastefull. We ate courgette and goatcheese starter and a salad with walnuts, maigret of duck and foie; and as main dish chicken catalan style and beef in red wine sauce...

"Visited today for lunch after reading a recent review about the high quality of food on offer. We were not disappointed! It was superb. There were 3 choices on each of the courses with one vegan option on each course. I had chicken fricassie which was the most delicious chicken dish I've had for a very long time. The meat was so tender, it fell away from the bone; the mushroom sauce was deliciously tasty - it wasn't over seasoned. My OH had tofu wok which he really enjoyed. Both were served with rice and runner beans. The starter was a dish of 2 types of melon one of which was watermelon, with feta. We didn't think it sounded great but we were very wrong. It was served with a dash of vinaigrette made with a light oil, a tiny bit of honey and toasted flaked almonds and was surprisingly interesting. All the flavours worked so well together. For dessert OH had the cheese plate with 3 different types of cheese which he loved but it couldn't have been better than my raspberry Eaton mess which was particularly good as it wasn't overly sweet. All for €18 each AND it was all organic! We sat outside in the courtyard which was a very pleasant area. The ambiance throughout was of calm. No background music, no clattering noises or shouting from the kitchen area. It was a little oasis of refined lunchtime dining, The service was impeccable. The young man who served us was very impressive and able to tell us what ingredients were used in the vinaigrette. It goes without saying that the high standard of food and service were also reflected in the high levels of cleanliness throughout. We only wish we'd discovered this place sooner and will be back again as soon as I can trust the OH's arm"
