"The menus read OK but the food did not deliver. We chose the €15 menu and for starters had fish soup - good but nothing special - and some small mussels and clams stuffed with garlic parsley butter - very salty and over-grilled. Bread was the standard sliced baguette offering. Main courses were Calamar Amoricaine (squid in a garlicky, spicy tomato'ey sauce) which was over-sweet, over-cooked and served with boiled carrots, plus Raie aux capres (skate with capers) served over choucroute in a cider sauce which was better than the squid but also over-sweet. We had cheese for dessert - two slices straight from the fridge served with a nicely-dressed green salad. With a bottle of decent Muscadet the bill came to €50 which is reasonable in Cancale. Service was efficient but soulless as was the general atmosphere the night we were there (Friday night in September) Perhaps L'Huitriere should only be considered for a shellfish meal (they own an oyster company) rather than anything more ambitious."

Always a great place to eat, my favourite seafood restuarant in Cancale. Open from 1st March until mid November, extremely popular so wise to book your table in advance.

Cancale is famous for its seafood and with 30 restaurants lined up along the seafront at Le Port choice is difficult. L'Huitriere is a good choice. Superb seafood. Friendly and good advice. Acres of parking.

We went to Cancale to try the famous flat oysters. At the stand next to the restaurant,we chose our oysters and they were then opened for us.Delicious and a very distinctive taste. What a joy sitting on the rocks watching the harvesting of the oyster beds and throwing a few shells to waiting sea birds.A memorable experience!!!!!Marianne

I'm partial because this is the only restaurant I visited in the area for seafood. But by golly they serve what I think is the freshest oysters in town! The only place where you'll get fresher oyster than this place is if you dive in the water and get the oyster yourself from the sea. But why do that when you can sit comfortably in this resto and enjoy the fruits of the sea! ;) Happy eating!

This has to be one of the best meals I have had in Cancale. We went there 2 years ago, and I wanted to return, and I did not regret it.It is a very simple restaurant, but everything is very good especially the Oysters are very fresh being local. Also the clams langoustine and St Pierre.I would definitely recommend this place wot which looks pretty small from outside, but in fact is quite big once your inside.

There were many restaurants to chose from, we chose this one because the menu on the chalk board outside was hand-written rather than printed and gave the impression that it changed frequently. We ate early as we had been travelling all day, the service was excellent attentive but not fussy. I had whelks by accident (translation error) but for my first time of eating them I really enjoyed them with a garlic dip and fresh bread. My main was entrecôte, fries and green salad which was delightful, cooked beautifully, and the small cheese board for desert was ideal in size for a three-course meal. I will definitely go back when I am in the area.

Friday lunch on holiday with my wife in Normandy. The restaurant serves both fixed menus and a la carte. We opted for a 20€ fixed menus, which includes a starter, two dishes and a sweet, beverage aside. For starter we got (and shared) a 12 oysters dish and an 8 pink crevettes dish. Then we got a hot oysters dish (very particular) and a cassolette (seafood in a cheesy sauce cooked in the oven, very nice). Then we both had moules frites (the typical Norman dish of muscles and chips). To end up, a creme brulee and a special dessert made of whipped egg-white in a sort of custard sauce. We drank a bottle of very nice dry cider. Nice view of the docks, not far from the oyster market and breeding a...

At a certain point, specialty restaurants reach a level of excellence that makes them difficult to compare, and so it is with L'Huitriere. Without extensive investigation (which I would gladly do), finding a better informal seafood restaurant would be extraordinarily difficult. As a restaurant that also sells its own oysters, it clearly takes pride in them. They certainly compare incredibly well with other oysters of France and the regional oysters from the East and West Coasts of the U.S We found the dishes generally superb, and in addition to the oysters the John Dory and Seafood Cassoulet deserve particular praise. The sole disappointment was the Fish Soup, which was pureed and counted on...
