"Mampf is one of these places which have character, but in a good way. It is a tiny local pub, no real tables, only a bar and long narrow wooden planks. But you can sit in a row one next to the other. Strange but fun for a small group. The place is a jazz club on some nights, and on others sometimes there's somebody just playing the piano. The decor is very cool: old posters, old musical instruments, a lot of used wood and a lot of soul. There's a surprisingly good selection of draft beers (vom Fass), including the good and unusual (for Frankfurt) Tucher, Gruener and Jever, as well as several bottled beers and other drinks. You won't be served a food menu unless you ask for it, and most people only drink, but make no mistake: this place has a tiny but efficient kitchen, and the Speisekarte is surprisingly extensive, with hot filling dishes as well as pub snacks, and the prices are humble. I had a good Handkaese mit Musik (the Frankfurt specialty of cheese with onions and vinegar), and a friend had a delicious Flammkuchen (German "pizza").The inherent problem is that past 21:00 or 22:00 it is packed full; you simply can't get in... To be on the safe side I would recommend arriving at 20:00, and much earlier on jazz nights."
