"I’ve eaten at the Manor House a few years ago for a special occasion and recall the food being very good. We visited on a rainy September evening for the midweek menu. It’s unbelievable value with three course for £27. The food is literally amazing, everything we ordered was cooked to perfection. My usually hard to please wife gave it 10/10 and rated the dauphinois potatoes as the best she has ever eaten. Often with midweek set menus the portions are reduced and the quality of food is not as good as al a carte. Not the case at the Manor House, we left full and the food was superb. A strong recommend."

Fabulous welcome, service, food and cocktails. Owner Carol-Ann is so friendly and has fabulous taste in decor. The food is to a very high standard and plentiful. We will definitely return.

Staying at the hotel as part of a family get together. The staff were friendly. Good footfall on a Friday evening. Local groups as well as hotel guests. Great food, well cooked and presented. Would definitely return.

This restaurant is traditional and classic. I didn't think people who were not staying at the hotel could dine here. We made a reservation on a whim when other restaurants were fully booked for the weekend, and we were pleasantly surprised to get a table. The food was absolutely delicious. View menu

Four of us went to dinner tonight and had a fantastic experience. The food was excellent and the staff were friendly and helpful. They even had a great gluten-free option. The dishes were very tasty and served hot. The homemade bread was delicious. The chef is outstanding. We couldn't find any faults with our meal and will definitely be coming back soon. The prices were also very competitive.

Six of us went last night to try the Xmas Menu. Everything was superb ! Very friendly and helpful staff. We all tried different items from the menu duck, lamb, turkey, sea bass, etc and everyone was extremely impressed by the delicious food all generous portions and served piping hot. One person Gluten Free and catered for without any problems. We all agreed that this is probably the best restaurant in the area. Highly recommended restaurant and we will of course return soon.

Strange set up at this place, has a fawlty towers vibe and decor without the slapstick. Having dined at the Langham London and The Fullerton Hotel, Singapore prior to arriving in Cockermouth, we were (as you may imagine) rather surprised by the choice of waiting staff and lack of diners at this restaurant. To be fair the food was decent enough, however the front of house was slightly comedic, and I suspect our wine may have came from a box tap. As we soon realised the whole area is like stepping back 30 years in time. View menu

Absolutely blown away by this place. The beautiful surroundings, amazing food and the staff so helpful, friendly and polite. The steak was cooked to perfection. Cannot fault anything at all. Felt safe too with tables set well apart and was so very clean and welcoming. I had thai fishcakes which were amazing!! My partner had lobster and king prawns which he said was beautiful. We both had steak and for desert was the manor house special,a gorgeous mini platter. The owner was chatty and friendly. Would highly recommend.

I dined at this restaurant last Monday, the 19th, with four friends. The atmosphere was excellent, with the restaurant beautifully decorated for Christmas. The owner, a warm and welcoming lady, made us feel right at home. Despite the restaurant being full, the service was very prompt. The drinks and meals were all of high quality and were presented beautifully. I ordered the prawn cocktail, duck, and cheese board, all of which were delicious. One of my friends is vegetarian and also enjoyed a lovely meal. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone and plan on returning in the future.

"I would have loved to rate our dining experience at the Ivy House a lot higher but we were to leave somewhat disappointed. The dining area was pleasant and intimate with well appointed decor, the waitress and waiters pleasant, polite and attentive. The varied menu looked very appetising with most tastes catered for. We chose two courses from the main menu, the Duck Breast and a Fish Dish for myself. Contrary to other reviews we were to wait over 40 minutes before the food was presented to us. We were not advised of any delays or even the expected length of time we might have to wait. The food on arrival was well presented and flavoursome although I did not consider two small stem broccoli spears a serving. I also asked the waiter why there was no Samphire to accompany my dish as stated on the menu, this comment was also reinforced by a fellow diner who ate the same dish just prior to me. The waiter advised me that he would ask the chef. I did not receive a response to my question during further table service and subsequently asked the waiter again. On returning the waiter advised me the chef said “he will try to remember to put it on next time”, a somewhat disrespectful comment. The Cheese platter we were presented with was lacklustre and sparse, quince jelly and a small dish of chutney being the predominant feature. For ourselves we did not feel that our dining experience represented good value for money."
