This is simply the best fish and chips I can remember having - beautiful piece of cod, moist and flakey, well cooked in a delicious and not overly greasy

We enjoyed a delightful lunch at Upstairs at No.1 Cromer. We were seated by the window with a beautiful view of the pier. To start, we had tempura prawns and a dozen Maldon Rock oysters. View menu

I believe this place is called No. 1 for a reason. The service was fast and friendly, and the food was tasty and generous. We particularly enjoyed the fish and chips and the crab sandwich. The restaurant has a lovely view overlooking the bay. It can get very busy during peak hours, so there may be a wait unless you make a reservation. I would gladly dine here again and highly recommend it.

Having eaten in the ground floor restaurant a couple of times on our short visit to Cromer we decided to venture upstairs. There were several specials on offer and I enjoyed the Catch of the Day while my husband had a vegetarian option .We shared a lemon tart for dessert. Our meals were well prepared and good value, service friendly and attentive throughout. We would return if we visit Cromer again.

We made a reservation to dine on a Sunday evening, although the restaurant was not very crowded and we could have just walked in. We decided to start with Oysters followed by Cod and Chips, paired with a bottle of house white wine. The food arrived promptly and everything was delicious. A popular restaurant with good views over the front and pier. The staff were pleasant and the food acceptable, though not memorable. Tempura soft-shell crab as a starter was tasty but offered more batter than crab, the main course of megrim (otherwise known as Cornish sole) was OK but the fish slightly overcooked, and the dessert of lemon tart was rather too solid. All in all, not bad but only 3 out of 5.

Food was very good however they were out of stock of two of the items I asked for so it didnt get off yo a good start. It was vompounded as we were sat almost beneath the air conditioning. It was blasting out cold air and the restaurant felt like a refrigerator, so much so that I was shivering throughout desert. It was 20degrees outside with heavy mist that hadnt lifted all day. Ruined the whole experience for me.

Had we stuck with the Fish Chips instead of ordering the Seafood Platter, we would have saved a lot of money had a lovely food experience. Must remember keep it simple, stupid..... Being adventurous (and greedy) we ordered Haddock Chips and the Platter, plus a starter of Scallops: the scallops were fantastic, and the lobster was delicious, but the rest of the platter not so much: prawn cocktail really over sauced and really gloopy, smoked fish scotch egg loved by two not so much by the other two; popcorn cockles again loved by two, not so much the others; tempura prawns terrific as was curry mayo and tartare sauce.
