"Only stayed 1 night. We called the number supplied when we arrived and the owner Luke was with us in minutes! Pint of milk in the fridge, tea coffee and sugar waiting for us which is perfect after a long drive. We had tea in the pub that is attached to the property. The food was lovely and not too expensive. The staff in the pub were amazing, a lady called Ann went above and beyond to help us out, so Thank you so much for helping us. The house is cosy, perfect for what we needed, 3 good sized double bedrooms and some games for the kids to play. We couldn't hear any noise from the pub, pool table dartboard and as mentioned lovely food and a great atmosphere. Thank you to Luke and the pub team for a Lovely stay!"

We were on the campsite round the corner and spent a rainy afternoon in this pub. It’s very nicely decorated and had lovely atmosphere. The staff are nice and friendly.

Really nice pub, and the food was great. Excellent service, all the staff were really friendly and welcoming. Ideally situated a very short drive or reasonable walk from the local campsite. Thank you!!

We called in here for an early dinner as staying nearby. We thoroughly enjoyed our main courses, but the tart we shared was a bit of a let down. Good family run business with friendly efficient service

While in North Yorkshire we visited this public house who served meals. We ordered steak and ale pie. It was dreadful. The meat was tasteless and the pastry was horrible. I'm over 70 and I have had pastry from all over the world but I have never tasted or seen pasty like what we were given. I could never recommend this pub for food.

Called in for a pint after our walk with Stanley our clumber spaniel and landlord very friendly and pub well organised due to COVID-19 Popped back again during the week for an evening meal and the service and food again was excellent, the steak was tasty and the sides and pudding all homemade Had to return for Sunday lunch and wasn’t disappointed, if you are in the area you must visit

We picked this pub by chance as it was 5 mins from where our friends lived. We were having a reunion and staying with friends in Thornton-le-Moor. Menu was very good. Plenty on the plate, had a starter and main. There was no room for a pud which was a real shame. The manger/owner was very helpful. Staff that waited on us were very good. I would recommend very much and will retun next time we are in the area.

We are staying at The Hideaway in South Otterington for a week. It is a beautiful well thought out property. All the little extras make it home from home. It is a pleasure to be here thank you Mark, Angela and Stanley. We decided to pop into The Otterington Shorthorn village pub and what a welcome we had, such friendly staff who found us a table (as we hadn't booked one) we decided to have a meal with our drinks. Absolutely fabulous, steak cooked to perfection, generous portion sizes and enjoyed immensely

"We arrived here for a 2 night stay for a wedding (Fri sat night). PROS: Lynsey the manageress she 100% makes it so fabulous. Lovely, welcoming, looked after us brilliantly. Due to some staff shortages, she was doing what seemed like 10 jobs at once! We ate on one of the nights food was delicious! Great service tasty food. Breakfast was also spot on set us up brilliantly for the day ahead on the Saturday! The Willow room which we stayed in was fab ideal size, lovely cosy too! The whole 2 night stay was extremely reasonably priced the place itself has a great feel about it like a big cosy house! CONS: If you like total darkness, take an eye mask for sleeping as the rooms can get really bright from the early hours. Also, depending on the room, it’s on quite a busy road so can be quite nosy it would be worth having earplugs if you like a quiet surrounding. Due to staffing, the bar doesn’t stay open that late, so be mindful of this, they will however put drinks in your room if you can’t make it back in time for the bar closing. Taxis there are no local taxis, so arranging transport to the wedding we were attending was a nightmare which we didn’t account for! Luckily after 6 different phone calls, we managed to get sorted. The only gripe I had was the confusion over the bill if you decide to charge things to your room, the bills aren’t itemised so it’s difficult to keep track of what has been charged. There was some confusion on checkout over what we should shouldn’t have been charged for, so definitely choose to pay for any extras outright to avoid any confusion or uncertainty before check out. Other than that, it was one of the nicest, most personal stays we’ve had out in a long long time. This was mainly down to the Manageress Lynsey who is fabulous at her job really does make it feel like home makes you feel super welcomed relaxed. Thank you lynsey for really making a stay a one to remember."
