"Having read the mostly positive reviews, we thought we’ll try this place. It’s obviously been here for decades, well before all the swanky new buildings that now surround it. It looks decidedly out of place. Parked in one of the nearby side streets after 6.30pm....The cafe is so dimly lit that it looks closed. The decor as you walk in is gloomy. It’s obviously not been updated since the cafe opened. There were candles on every table, and if these were removed the place would be absolutely insufferable. It also isn’t very clean. Cobwebs and dust everywhere. A visit to the toilet reminds one of a medieval dungeon. You have to negotiate some very steep and wet stairs, with almost no lighting, and then are met with the most basic of amenities in the ‘bathroom’. The waitress was positively surly. The food was disappointingly average. I am a regular at several Thai restaurants, and this was well below any of their standards. Prawn starters were bland. Beef satay was greasy. Squid curry had hardly any squid and absolutely no basil as was advertised on the menu. Prawn curry was ok, but had only 5 prawns in it. Portions are not generous, but just enough if you’re not very hungry. Corkage is ridiculous at £2.50 per person. They only accept cash, which again in this day and age is absurd. There are no cash points nearby, so he prepared. There’s also no signs telling you this, so it’s a bit embarrassing if you get caught out. One visit to this place is enough to tick it off the ‘hidden gem’ list. The dingy and dirty decor, average food, poor amenities and insistence of cash payments is enough to put off a second visit."

The place is a gem, that brings Asia memories. It is far from being posh, but food is very good. Candles give the correct vibe.

Great food, traditional and well priced, lovely friendly staff. It doesn’t look like much from the outside but it’s definitely worth a visit!

Me and my wife had a wonderful meal here last night. Starters, then pad Thai for my wife which was full of flavour. I had the panang chicken curry which was superb. The staff are the friendliness people you could meet, the atmosphere is dingy...but was quaint. Couldn’t fault the meal so take a chance you won’t be disappointed

I’ve walked past a few times and dismissed this place as it doesn’t look much on the outside . However food and service was fabulous . Ok so there are no linen napkins trendy deco and the toilet is an adventure, but the bill reflects...that. As all people who have travelled in Thailand will know, its these type of Thai cafes that serve the best food . I loved it and I eat a lot of Thai !

every time I'm in london, I'm trying to go to pie crust. behind the inconvenient sign and door is a culinary joy of Thai food, which is beckons. as a regular visit in Thailand allows me pie crust to taste the aromen thailands. here in blighty. the service is on and friendly almost as in their grandmother kitchen. if they expect silver service, tiny portions, michael in an opulent environment, forget that this place is not for them. if they want to eat home cooked, which is simply excellent, in a cozy environment they will love this! We had an uncomfortable meal here, which was a shame as the food was terrific. Quality-wise it was up there with the best Thai food I’ve had in east London. Unfortunately they had mixed up our starters with the table next to us so that...we were brought two dishes and they were brought none. The complication arose as we had ordered a ‘platter’ and had just assumed that both dishes were part of his order. When we found out we explained to staff but they clearly didn’t understand and the atmosphere became more and more tense. In the end the table next to us didn’t receive their starter and we were charged for two dishes. When I complained that the error was down to them they said that we ate b...

I don't know what the more valued think that's less than excellent. maybe it's their taste Buddhas or preferences of michael standard / supermarket settings... after reading some games, some people have to humiliate themselves! environment; it is not for everyone, but if they. to support and eat a warm, candle-shaped, humble, family place, that is for them. if not, mayfair is accessible via the tube. if they have tried and tested several Thai cuisines throughout london like me (busaba is not authentic, but I will say I like it and recommend if they had never Thai eating before as a boarding place before they try the real witness, then this is one of the best authentic places that are still l...
