Quite a large and very busy train station! However, it is clearly signed, so very easy to navigate. The station is well policed and clean. Lots of services and shops. Pick up and drop offs can be a problem, depending on the time of day. View menu

This is the central train station in Dusseldorf, Germany. The station is very clean and modern. There is an Information Desk at the entrance. There are a lot of shops and places to get food. Signage is excellent, and all overhead announcements are in English in addition to German.

This station is nice and easy to navigate. I only had a problem with finding the DB Bahn bus as when you step out of the station there are so many bus and train stops, it is really ridiculous. I almost missed my connecting bus just because there weren't any clear signs. They had nice food and drink places inside though.

I have to admit that as a railway station this one is pretty ugly. Okay, it may not be the worst that I have seen (Florence and Venice come very close to that), but it certainly isn't all that wonderful. Like many of these railway stations they do have a lot of services available, including a couple of hotels (though the hotels themselves aren't all that flash). It was convenient, and had some decent services, but other than that it wasn't all that flash. Oh, and nowhere did they tell you about how to use the tickets on the U-Bahn. View menu

I'm in Düsseldorf on a Sunday and everything is closed. But worry not because the main train station is very close to my hotel. It has EVERYTHING you could need. Outside, in front of the station, there are some stands selling Italian specialties including fresh olives. There are also some food trucks. The inside of the station is beautiful. And well laid out. There is everything from a grocery store, bookstore, apothecary, coffee shop, pizza place, McDonalds and so much more. I think you can find whatever you may be looking for. There is a police presence and everything seems to be clean and well run.

I wish I could give 3.5 stars. This is a really big station and therefore hard to navigate for a traveler not familiar with where the tracks are. Signage is a bit spotty and again, not well positioned for occasional travelers. You can also catch the UBahn in the station. Again, the signage is terrible for those not from Dusseldorf as you must go all the way done to the platform in order to see the line map and verify you have the correct direction. On the plus side, connections can be very efficient when you know where you're going. And there is a big, helpful Duetschebahn office here where tickets are available.

Considering that I spent three days in Düsseldorf, it's surprising that I only stopped in the hauptbahnhof the one time when I arrived. It is a large station with 16 rail platforms plus four tram platforms and four Stadtbahn platforms. As such, it is Germany's sixth busiest station. The parts that I encountered were step free but I'm not sure if the entire station is such. I was able to roll my spinner suitcase easily from the train, through the station and out to the tram. Signage looked good and easy to read. Lots of food and some retail shopping opportunities here. And in 2021, masks are required throughout the train system.
