"We love Platters, Patrick and his team are so friendly and accommodating. The fish is fantastic particularly the grilled gurnard and the trio of fish, the scallops are amazing and the seafood platter is excellent value for money. All fish is fresh here and expertly cooked by chefs who really know how to cook fish, great chips and peas and wash it down with a glass of muscadet it's a proper treat! We are regulars and with my partner being a professional chef himself we find it so difficult to find fish cookery just the way we like it, so would highly recommend everyone to give it a try as it's great value for money and the best grilled fish on the Barbican!"

The best fish and chips we have had in years. The chips were crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside, while the battered fish was perfect. The service was excellent. I would highly recommend visiting this restaurant for the food.

Proposed to my wife here in 1991. Went back in our 30th year of marriage. Still as good as ever. Helpful and accommodating staff. Great food and amazing value. So good, in fact, we went back the following evening. If you like your seafood, its well worth a visit.

The cod and chips were tasteless and bland, leaving us very disappointed. We paid £54.00 for the meal for three of us. This is not the way to run a restaurant. The food was subpar and we have had much better at Wetherspoon's. It is unlikely this restaurant will win any prizes with this quality of food. View menu

Very popular restaurant with the fish chip crowd and also the Chinese community who really like their fish. 34+ covers and very busy on a Sunday evening. I had the Platters Trio which were 3 different types of grilled fish with chips and garden peas accompanied by home made tartare sauce. Open kitchen so you can watch the chefs in action. They really do serve fresh fish here.

Delicious food, really cosy and nicely decorated. Staff were a delight. Portions were too big for us, my starter of moulles mariner (about 20 of them!! Would have done for a main. I had ordered paella for my actual main, so I stood no chance. Had to walk it off quite carefully. Recommend coming here and just ordering moulles, I'm not a massive seafood fan but it was delicious.

Four of us went in for lunch. The restaurant was quite busy which created a nice buzz. Two of us had seafood paella which was excellent with plenty of mussels, prawns and calamari it was yum. Two had large cod and chips and demolished the lot. The service is friendly, attentive and helpful, especially useful if you have any dietary requirements or allergies. We have been before and we'll be back again very soon. View menu

We visited Plymouth on the Saphos steam train and having wandered down to the Hoe walked across to the Barbican to find somewhere for a light lunch. SO glad we found Platters! What a hidden gem! Food was excellent. Super quality fish, cooked to perfection. We had the calamari and whitebait. Lovely waitress. Cosy, clean restaurant. We would definitely use Platters regularly if we lived in Plymouth. Thanks to all!

We came back today with more family members for our second meal of the week. We ordered the seafood platter and it was amazing, it was so much food that we couldn't finish it all! The selection of freshly cooked items was great, we especially enjoyed the scallops, mussels, and trio of fish. We were a little jealous of the fish and chips being served at a nearby table. The staff was friendly and helpful, and we would definitely return.

"Visited on a busy Saturday evening. General impression is the restaurant is clean, well presented and evidently well liked for how many people were in the small dining area. A little noisy, particularly in the confined space beside the kitchen, when seated close beside a louder table. As the evening progressed, we felt quite cold not sure if the heating was on? Service from the staff was outstanding, very friendly, polite, attentive, but food was slow to arrive. We were a little perplexed by having the appetiser on the table before our starter/main order had been taken, so having to work around still having the menus. The smoked butter was very strong my partner liked it, it was too much for me. Both fish starters were good, with the mackerel our favourite. The main courses were OK. The lamb was fine, but served with lamb fat root veg meant the whole plate was very similar flavoured, and the green beans/salsa verde felt like an afterthought. The skate wing was nice, and the crispy capers were a new and pleasant experience. The desserts rescued the food for me the creme brulée was outstanding, and the chocolate special was very good, with exception of a slightly chewy meringue. I feel I'm being picky with my criticisms, but fig tree is definitely priced higher than other more standard fare restaurants in Plymouth where we have also had very good food."
