"We chose here to redeem an afternoon tea voucher. Gorgeous setting right by the river in a secluded peaceful area of Derby. Once we were shown to our seat the service was so quick. They bring out your drinks first and then a 3 tier tray for the afternoon tea. As there were 3 of us we got 4 sandwiches each with 4 different fillings. Egg mayonnaise. Tuna and cucumber, coronation chicken and cheese and onion (they do offer other options for allergies) we also had 2 cheese straws which were lovely, a scone each with clotted cream and 2 choices of jams (strawberry and blackcurrant) a macaroon each and for dessert Oreo cheesecake, vanilla slice and carrot cake (1 each) fantastic all round and would definitely go back. We were also able to take anything we didn’t finish home with us."

Limited choice because of restrictions, but good enough, and staff were really lovely.

I’d definitely recommend this restaurant, but would mention the fact that it lacks atmosphere. Other than that, and being off the beaten track, I’d say it’s really worth a visit View menu

Worst service I’ve ever had and overpriced food. Understaffed and poor management for a Saturday night and sadly hospitality either not attentive or overworked. A real shame because the location has a lot of potential. Would not recommend.

We had a lovely afternoon tea. Due to traffic issues, we were very late but the staff were so helpful and accommodating. The tea consisted of sandwiches, scones with cream and jam and four kinds of cake. It was all delicious and very filling.

After enjoying a delightful afternoon tea at this restaurant in the past, we decided to host a baby shower there on Sunday. From our initial inquiry to the actual event, the communication and organization were top-notch. The room assigned to our group of 24 was ideal, and the staff on the day ensured we had plenty of tea to enjoy. Our guests raved about the delicious food, with the homemade cheesecake receiving special praise. A big thank you to the entire team – we can't wait to come back for another visit. View menu

I was very disappointed with my experience at this restaurant. The menu was poor, the service was slow, and the food was low quality despite being expensive. In contrast, I had a great meal at Otter on the same day for the same price, enjoying a cocktail, hot drinks, and dessert in a nice atmosphere with excellent service. At this restaurant, I paid the same amount for a children's menu, steak, a small tapas, and basic drinks without dessert or hot drinks, and the place was cold due to a broken boiler. I couldn't believe that the two meals cost us the same amount. I was so disappointed that I created a TripAdvisor account just to leave this review.

My partner and I booked this place for Valentine's Day. After reading some negative reviews, we considered cancelling, but we are so glad we didn't. We stayed in Room 8 in the cottages for one night, with dinner and breakfast included. The room was much better than we expected - warm and cozy, with a nice shower in the bathroom. The staff who took care of us during dinner were very friendly and attentive. We had a good night's sleep and enjoyed a delicious breakfast the next morning. We were impressed by how the breakfast was cooked fresh based on our choices, and the staff made sure we had everything we needed. Even though we live nearby, it was our first time at this restaurant, but we wil...

"Nipped in for a quick bite on a Friday evening. We went up to what looked like the restaurant bar and asked if it was possible to get a table but were directed to the main bar to ask about this. The place was packed- getting served at the internal bar would have been a bit of a fight. Had a similar experience on a visit here before because there's not much space around the bar so you tend to get an impenetrable crowd instead of any sort of line. Eventually managed to get the attention of a member of staff and were told the restaurant was fully booked, however we could sit outside and order food at the bar to our outside table. Would have saved us some time if that was communicated through the team and relayed by the first person we asked instead of sending us to queue elsewhere. We did order to an outside table, and the food was excellent. The small pizzas really are quite small. But if you have a couple of sides they're perfect to not overstuff you. If you want to just eat pizza probably get a large. Also they had really interesting topping selections on the pizzas- I had the spiced aubergine, creme fraiche and honey. It was absolutely delicious. The chips were hot and well seasoned, the greek salad also really nice- I did miss the addition of peppers and would possibly remove the pea shoots and sub in the peppers to improve this and keep it more authentic though. Drinks were nice and the atmosphere inside was quite cosy and outside had a nice vibe with the tasteful lightning and wooden furniture. Would definitely return (but probably make a reservation. It's busy for a reason!"

"We stayed for one night prior to a flight at East Midlands Airport and everything was excellent, from the warm, welcoming staff, to the rooms and the simply delicious food (evening and breakfast). Firstly the pub: food, drinks, restaurant… All excellent. The sign of a great pub for ale drinkers is one with knowledgeable staff who are keen to let you sample before deciding on a pint. This was the case here and we worked through all five real ales during the afternoon and evening! Also a great selection of wines, and everything served in the correct glasses I loved the attention to detail. Then the evening meal in the restaurant area of the pub: this was also excellent, with a great menu and top food, in plentiful portions. Really delicious all ‘round. We didn’t manage desserts but starters and mains all great. The pub/restaurant is well presented inside and out, with a lovely beer garden at the back. Secondly, the hotel rooms: we were in rooms 1 2 and both were lovely. They were well presented, comfy beds, nice hospitality tray (with fresh milk in the in room fridge), nice toiletries. The room rate included breakfast, which was all freshly cooked to order and once again, a great selection. I would 100% stay here again, especially if going to/from East Midlands airport which was less than a 10 minute drive. A lovely, traditional country Inn with excellent food and hospitality. Thank you to the full team."
