"The end to a perfect 4 mile walk around the countryside of Sutton Bonnington would you believe, 5 weary lady walkers sitting in the sunshine at 11.45am waiting for the pub to open The landlord gave us a warm welcome after opening the front doors, and how decadent, we were the first there. After ordering a well earned long drink, and lunch we chatted away whilst waiting for lunch to appear What a lovely site, the fish chips and mushy peas looked appetising, so did the prawn cocktails and i had scampi and salad, and it all tasted as good as it looked Thank you for your warm hospitality from you and your efficient staff, we will call again soon"

Popped in to have a pint and exchange Christmas presents with a friend. Lovely pub with welcoming staff, good beer and a classic village pub feel. Going back today .

New management and staff were very welcoming. Typical warm village pub atmosphere with a little something extra. This was my second visit since they took over. We went for Sunday lunch and enjoyed every part of it. I hope this continues and hope everyone reading this pays a visit to a wonderful little village gem. Keep up the great work

Excellent Sunday dinner ! Visited today and sampled the Sunday dinner which was first rate. The new owners have put a lot of thought and effort into this venture. Excellent choice of meats and plentiful vegetables, and a new addition of your own gravy boat ! Simple but so thoughtful Reasonable price and good customer service Well done Michael and Lizzie ! You shouldn't expect any fancy extras here. The Pub is a traditional village pub with a cozy log burner, a warm welcome from the landlady Caroline, and delicious food made to order. There's no background music, no noisy slot machines, and no distracting pool table – just good conversation, laughter, and even some friendly dogs. A true gem of a pub that captures the essence of a proper village pub!

We had a really delicious meal at the Kings Head the food was beautifully cooked. The fish and chips had really fresh fish in a light crispy batter and the nut roast was very tasty with perfectly cooked veggies. The new landlord gave us a warm and friendly welcome and the changes to the pub decor and lighting have given it a good atmosphere. It's now a really nice place to come for both a drink and/or food. We'll definitely be back!

Highly recommend this place. The menu may be simple, but the food is excellent. Everything is cooked fresh to order. The bar area is warm and welcoming, with a cozy log burner. The staff are very friendly and the pub is extremely dog-friendly. The owner has four dogs of her own (2 Labradors, an Old English Sheepdog, and a German Shepherd) who you will likely see during your visit. This is a traditional village pub, so don't expect anything fancy. View menu

Warm and friendly pub. Stopped off earlier in the day to book a table for this evening. Very prompt and courteous service from friendly staff with good knowledge of the gluten free options available. Food arrived soon afterwards. I had the gluten free fish and chips with one of the best gluten free batters that I have tasted. My daughter had an equally tasty gluten free pizza and my wife had the ‘normal’ scampi and chips which she thoroughly enjoyed. A great find close to the university and will definitely return when we come back up here. Thanks for some great cooking and a warm welcome!

We tried the Sunday Lunch at The Kings Head for the first time and were very impressed. Despite arriving slightly late due to traffic, our pre-booked table was still waiting for us. We both opted for the Sunday Roast, with a choice of 3 meats and plenty of vegetables. The portions were generous and the meal was delicious. We also indulged in dessert, which was equally satisfying. The friendly staff and great pint of beer added to the enjoyable experience. We will definitely be returning, especially since the restaurant is dog friendly. Thank you to the staff for a wonderful meal, we can't wait to come back.

"I'll start with the positives. The interaction I had on Facebook to book a table, and then change the booking, was very positive. The two young waitresses who served us were great. The pub is shabby with rubbish and cigarette butts scattered outside the door...and a smell of smoke in the doorway. The décor is tired and tatty, and the bench seat in the restaurant area has a big split in it. The floor of the restaurant had bits of food and other rubbish on it. The salt and pepper and vinegar bottle didn't look like they'd been cleaned for a few days. The food was uninspiring, and mostly overcooked. The Yorkshire puddings were burnt black and were mostly inedible (when we commented on this, the waitress said she was too scared of the chef to say anything to him). The roast potatoes were hard and tough. The vegetables (not enough for 6 of us from one dish) were not great and the cauliflower cheese was the most uninspiring I've had for a long time. The lamb was OK, but that's all I can say about it. The whole menu (apart from a goat's cheese salad) was dull and unimaginative, even allowing for the fact that for Sunday lunch on Mother's Day most people want roasts. We didn't bother staying to have desserts. I thought from the TripAdvisor reviews that we were going to a gastropub, or a pub with a super restaurant. It was like having a meal in a pub 30 years ago, which is fine if that's what you want. It was a dreadful experience and not at all the way we wanted to celebrate my son's birthday and Mother's Day. We will not go back again."
