"We came to Nassington to collect something my wife had bought online and figured, while we were here, we would try it for a late lunch. I went to check if they allowed dogs (we have 2, beagle and shihtsu and were still serving; as soon as I walked in the door it felt warm and welcoming. There were quite a few folks in but it was genial rather than crowded, and the music was actually background rather than live gig level (a rarity these days, it would seem , so also seeing the cosy fire and the water bowl for dogs made our decision inevitable. The staff were all very friendly, helpful and efficient, and our order was taken quickly for a shared Camembert to start then beef sirloin and pork belly mains which didn't take long to arrive and, when they did, what a treat! Quite the best Sunday dinners we've had in a long time, with top notch roasties, beautifully done roast carrots parsnips and a scrumptious cauliflower cheese. For me, if the food is good enough the only accompaniment should be an optional twinkle of salt pepper and so it was here; all was cooked to perfection with excellent flavour and any additions would have spoiled it. They only had two ales on the pump and one was GK IPA (I never touch it but luckily they had a fine local Nene Valley Brewery session blonde which went very well with my meal. The doglets settled in very quickly, which is always a good measure of the ambience, so all in all this was a brilliant spur of the moment choice. We will definitely be back and I would heartily recommend it to anyone who likes a traditional local pub with atmosphere and excellent food well, who doesn't? :"

As a resident of the locality we do tend to eat at this hotel now and again. We have never had anything other that a very tasty freshly prepared meal in a nice country pub type environment. Staff are friendly service is good and portions plentiful.

I had previously visited this pub at Christmas and the food was excellent. On my next visit I chose steak and chips, and that is what you got. There was a half a tomato but no other vegetable. The steak was very fatty and after cutting the fat away you were left with a small piece of steak. Not sure I would visit again in a hurry.

A warm welcome by the landlord on entering the bar is always a delight.I had only popped in for a coffee but decied to eat when I saw the traditional English menu and lots of plates going out to diners. Good traditional British menu , and food prepared using local ingredients with indiviual touches , led to a very pleasant lunch.Recommended

We had a wonderful dining experience at this charming village Pub/Hotel/Restaurant with a Travelzoo voucher. From the moment we arrived, we felt welcomed and the dining room had a cozy atmosphere. Our three courses were all deliciously cooked and presented with care, and the service was friendly. I look forward to returning in the warmer months to enjoy a pint by the river.

The restaurant is located in a charming and peaceful village. It overlooks a picturesque river. There is parking right outside the room. The room was large and clean, though the bathroom could use some updating. The breakfast was delicious and the staff was very welcoming. The only downside was that there was a wedding happening during our stay, which we were not informed about when booking. This made it difficult to enjoy a meal or a drink at the bar, so we ended up going elsewhere for dinner.

I bought a Travelzoo voucher for a 3-course a la carte meal for two at the Queens Head Inn for £35 (usually £70). I made a reservation for Sunday lunch and was very impressed with the quality of the roast dinner. In my opinion, it was one of the best places in the Stamford/Peterborough area. The portion sizes were generous, and we were so full that we couldn't finish the last course. The Queens Head Inn also has reasonably priced accommodation and a charming outdoor seating area by the river for summer months, although only the bar menu is available outside.

Situated a few miles from Peterborough in the village of Nassington this well converted village pub does very good food. The service is good but the friendly and willing young staff on duty for Sunday Lunch could do with a little guidance from management just to take it to the next level. They were courteous and polite but you should not have to ask for serving spoons or mint sauce for the lamb and horseradish for the beef. All that said our party enjoyed the experience and the very good food. The large function room/restaurant is very well appointed but could have been a little warmer on a chilly day. It is well worth a visit and we shall be back.

We booked on a deal scouting for a place to stay for our small ramble group of 12 Lovely village quaint old pub which is far better than the impression the frontage gives Rooms are small cottages around the car park which leads down to the riverside so very scenic surprisingly tranquil Rooms are fine, beds cosy comfy they were just delivering 55 inch plasma TV's as we left! Excellent food in the restaurant, good choice sensibly priced but most of all very well cooked The staff were extremely pleasant helpful especially mentioning Amy, Chris, Veronique Shaun the breakfast chef fantastic poached eggs Even the chambermaid was cheerful made sure we had all we needed Great location for walks arou...

"a difficult review when the restaurant tried to provide the service that I am sure they wanted. a busy Saturday midday in December, all the tables were tightly packed, there were no ceiling ventilation or were all windows open to provide covid ventilation protection. the menu is large with a lot of choice. we went for a selection of starters to share under the family. most were very small dishes, the flower flowers bites consisted only small floccules. I think that this was too expensive for everyone. for the net I divided half a steak/ale cake and crispy chili bark. the bark in the torte was chewing and blande, the chips rode in a customs of their life, and the muddy peas were simply crushed, cultivated garden. the chili beef on the other side was sensational, fully spiced, steaming hot and loads of it, with rice and crack. the dishes could no longer differ in quality and taste. similar mixed results were reported from the rest of the table. I appreciate that covid has hit local food companies hard and they are still trying to get their pre-pandemic service. there were many guests who were fed and the kitchen struggled to supply consistency; our main dishes were delivered in intervals, so we did not eat together and it took to put the net on the table. as mentioned it was brushed, but a service fee was added to the bill. I think this is a bad service, even if one takes into account the difficulties of the covid. I hope that this feedback will be taken and traded so that we can see an improvement when we visit next."

"[edit] kept me a promise to return to food, and I was not disappointed. We have sung with friends that we haven't seen for over five years, and it was the ideal choice to recover from a beautiful meal. A warm and welcoming welcome from all employees, in a warm and welcoming atmosphere. We ordered drinks from the bar and immediately sat in the dining room. Menus and specialties of the day were provided. Although it was pretty busy, we never felt cramped or that it was too loud as it could be in other settings. The layout of the tables made our group of four feelings, we had private food, also occupied with any other table. We chose Pate (x2), mussels and engraving, followed by Red Lion Burger, Pasta parmigiana, fish and chips and duck. For dessert, Rhabarb crumb cake, sticky toffee pudding. All dishes came sharp with perfect timing. Our servers were always available for drinks, but never float ominous. The food here is excellent. Really. I haven't eaten it well for some time. A great thank you to Phil, John and her staff for having an evening to remember for all the right reasons. What the personal touch must be. You have just expanded the outdoor seating area, and I am happy to come back when it is warmer to enjoy some fine al fresco restaurants. [1. Review] We visited a birthday function here in the beer garden. What a beautiful pub that is. They even had a pizza van that made delicious fresh pizzas. The staff were efficient and extremely helpful and friendly, always on hand, and from the comments I heard from other diners in the pub, everyone had enjoyed their meals. I will definitely return with my family."
