"Salon Schmitz is an absolutely fantastic cafe that was located near the Hotel Conti where we were staying. The interior of this cafe has a very ornate decorative scheme ,chandeliers, finely polished mirrors, vintage photos and great decor and furnishings, there's also plenty of seating options spread throughout...this Cafe, the glass fronted cake case is very inviting indeed. We were here on a Wednesday morning,we were heading to the wonderful Hehnen Gate Christmas Market and decided to drop into here for a quick coffee, greeted warmly by a very pleasant member of staff who took our order of a coffee each, these were served steaming hot and we just chilled out and soaked up the great vibe in this superb cafe. The coffee was outstandingly good, you can tell they use quality ingredients in here and take great pride in what they serve. We really enjoyed our coffees in here ,if we hadn't just had breakfast in our hotel we would have had a cake here as they looked superb. We moved on after our delicious coffees and for a first time visit we were very impressed with the great cafe. Salon Schmitz is really easy to locate by jumping the Ubahn or tram number to stop Rudolfplatz were you walk down Aachener Straße were you will find this cafe. Opening hours are; Monday to till Friday till till A great cafe and one I highly recommend you visit if your in the area."

Although this place is ALWAYS packed and very narrow seating, I enjoy the quiche with the sweet potatoe salad.

Centered located, Salon Schmitz is a nice place to hang out or simply passed by for ice cream. Here i got the best sweet caramel ice cream I ever had! Ask for a small taste before you get one, because there is a large selection...of non common gelati.

Lovely atmosphere and great food however the service leaves something to be desired as quite slow and had to remind them a couple of times to bring things we had ordered and to clear the table which they did but only cleared off half the...things so we did it ourselves. Having said that, the best lentil soup ever tasted and would go back again

Achener Straße out of Rudolf Platz offers lots of nice little cozy restaurants amongst which was this place. The beef schnitzel was as thin and tender as it's supposed to be, the die potato salad was as heavenly as we wished it to be and...the mustard exceeded our expectations from the tongue to the forehead ... kaboom All of that made us forget the great Indian lentil soup ... just amazing!!

Since this restaurant is right below our apartment we are staying in we have stopped in for breakfast twice and have not been disappointed! You sit down at your table and order your drinks then order your food next door and give them your table...number and they bring it over when it's ready. We've had bacon, eggs, pancakes, bread, chorizo/cheese/scrambled eggs, and lattes. Warm and welcoming atmosphere, always busy, staff of very friendly!

A lot of friends love visiting the cafe as well as the salon Schmitz on a regularly basis. That's why I visited this place more than a few times. It's kind of hip and it seems like people go there to see and to be...seen. The service is really bad, waiters/waitresses are pretty arrogant and seem to be too hip to serve good service. The food is very pricey, but average. However, the ice cream is good and the coffee as well as the cakes are delicious.

The room is a very nice, well-maintained old building in Cologne. The food was average at best and the service was very slow (although we were offered a sorbet to tide us over between courses because it took sooooo long). Most importantly, any change (e.g....fried potatoes instead of mashed potatoes) costs €, which we were told is typical in such high-end establishments I've never heard that before. Most annoyingly, at the price point that this restaurant is € for a main course), no cards are accepted. This is anachronistic, bad for business clients and unfriendly to customers.

This place has a certain charm to it. It’s a cool hang out spot to grab a quick bite or a drink. The Schmitz has actually different outlets next to each other. One is a cafe, one is a food take out which also...cooks the food for the cafe and the last is a gelateria. The food is local and tasty. The staff can vary depending on who is there really. I had a great night one night, and a not so great one the second night. Another important point: take CASH with you as they do not accept credit cards! All in all, Schmitz is a cool place to grab a coffee, some cake and work on your emails. Or a great place for a drink
