"After a long day exploring the Drenthe (Netherlands) countryside, we crossed the border for a typical German dinner. We were not disappointed. Some might called this place kind of old-fashioned, but I liked it.The service was efficient as well as friendly and quick. The menu offers a number of recurring dishes plus seasonal specialties (our autumn choice was a variety of dishes all based on pumpkin). However, we went for 2 of the standard choices. My wife had fried gold bass in a breadcrumb crust, while I settled for a rump steak. The nice thing with the rump steak is that you can choose each and every side dish separately. Unfortunately I could not get the fresh chanterelle mushrooms that I wanted, but at least the canned variety was available, and it was lovely. Combined with fried onions and almond potato croquettes, it was a great main dish.Fortunately, the restaurant offers plenty of choice as to beers (some nice local ones), and not just German wines which is good.I especially appreciate that the owner of the restaurant, although old and having difficulty walking with 2 crutches, made his rounds to all tables to personally greet everyone, and have a little chat with the regulars. That shows commitment and dedication.Well worth a visit!"

an excellent, family owned restaurant, tasty seasonal cuisine created by Maria, the owner and drinks taken care of by a true Meppen original, Paul P.S. Schmidt, the one and only.

Old hotel and restaurant very pretty and authentic. The food was really, really good and fresh, and again very authentically German. Good service and friendly(for Germany) enough. A hidden gem...

I had dinner with my colleague. I ordered Schnitzel with onions. It was huge portion. But I have to say it was good meal. Service is nice and so is the restaurant and service. I can recomend this restaurat easily.

We came across this place for Lunch as it was pretty much the only restaurant open in Meppen at that time. However we're glad we ended up there. Food was basic but delicious. Service was very friendly, and the atmosphere was truly German. We both had schnitzel and it was so filling we could barely finish it... but we did!

Had the Asparagus special. Served with pork schnitzel, boiled potatoes, scramble eggs, almond butter, and hollandaise sauce. The meal started with a asparagus cream soup. A nice start that was very well matched to the baguette. The meal was eccentric. The traditional white asparagus and hollandaise sauce was done well. Large fat asparagus cooked perfectly and the scratch made hollandaise sauce was so good. Took the hollandaise sauce to the potatoes and it was just that much better.

DANKE for the beautiful weekend in your house. We felt very comfortable and with you, after a number of negative experiences in other, partly categorized houses, this is still service in Germany. All were competent, helpful, friendly, polite,... but never intrusive. That's how I introduce a good service. Room 102 was nicely furnished and equipped with all necessary. Our bikes were protected in the basement and the food (breakfast and in the evening a la map) was highly recommended. I think we'll see you in 2018 for a weekend in conjunction with the outdoor stage.

This hotel is charming, and the food is spectacular! We asked the waitress (who didn't speak much English, but we used "sign" language to figure everything out--LOL!) what she recommended, and she pointed to some sort of "shared" meal (can't remember exactly what it's called on the menu). Every single thing that we ate was incredible. We started off the meal with the mushroom soup, and I highly encourage you to try this. It's the best I've ever had, and I thought I had had good mushroom soup before this. The "shared" meal had turkey, beef, duck, some sort of fried potatoes, vegetables including green beans with bacon, cauliflower, mushrooms, and apples with cranberries. If you're ever in Mep...
