"The first time I have been here in about 3 or 4 years due to the absolutely terrible and inedible food I was served back then. (not sure if I could technically call it food though) Tonight I thought that I 'd wing it, test out a few small dishes and see if there has been any changes... I ordered Salt Pepper Chicken, Sweet Sour Chicken (Hong Kong Style) Chicken Chow Mein, Pork Balls and some Prawn Crackers. Obviously not the most exotic of selections, but I didn 't want to risk getting a bad meal again and throwing money down the drain. The S P chicken was good. Not too much chilli and the perfect amount of salt, garlic and onions. Maybe more similar sized chunks of chicken would 've made it better. (8/10) The S S chicken was nice, but the sauce was extremely vibrant and quite possibly borderline radioactive I did like the fresh, raw onion though. Added a nice amount of crunch. (7/10) The chicken chow mein had a nice, smoky vibe to it, and the perfect ratio of noodle, chicken and been sprouts. (8/10) The Pork Balls were all a bit too smooth and uniform in shape, rather than a little bit rugged around the edges. It gave me a pre-made vibe, although I highly doubt this was the case. Pork to batter ratio could definitely have been better. (6.5/10) Prawn Crackers were spot on too. A nice amount of crunch, a good portion in a bag too! No massive complaints. (9.5/10) Overall, a reasonably surprising visit back to The Take Away House. It definitely could do with a lick of paint and freshening up, smokers from next door could be a bit more courteous and smoke away from the open door, and people waiting inside could be a bit more aware of their surroundings and move out of the way of the area where you order whilst drunkenly chomping on prawn crackers. But what can you do? The food was good, not great, not amazing. But definitely a night and day difference between the slop I was served 3 or 4 years ago. I really enjoyed the chow mein however always being charged different for the exact same food we order every time. If I’m honest I feel so sorry for the women behind the counter after sharing her story of the sick man who took advantage of her! Heart breaking! Service: Take out Meal type: Dinner Price per person: £20–30

Thought I’d give it a try again after being disappointed by the quality of the food every time. Usually travel if ever we decide on Chinese. Wow this food wasn’t fit for human consumption, they literally made it in 4 minutes which says a lot. Worst Chinese I’ve ever had, awful flavour, texture and was worried I may get ill. How this business survives I don’t know as it is always empty. The usual place we go to has a 30-45 minute wait for food (on a good day). Won’t ever go back, food ended up in the bin.

At first I was hesitant to try it but people were saying that the food has improved so gave it a go —— SO GOOD! So far, we’ve ordered: 1. Salt and Pepper Squid MY ABSOLUTE FAVOURITE sooo good! a bit greasy but love the flavour and the spicyness — and the squid was perfectly cooked 2. Duck Chow Mein — Loved it too 3. Sweet and Sour Pork Ribs and Chicken — was also so good! 4. The big spring roll was so so — I felt like it needs some flavour Will definitely come back frequently Service: Take out Meal type: Dinner Price per person: £20–30 Recommended dishes: Hot Sour Soup, Ribs, Duck Chow Mein

"Stopped here 1 pm Thursday lunchtime as we were driving past and the car park at the front of this nice looking pub restaurant had plenty of free spaces. We were surprised at the notice on the door saying “No Children” but went inside to the empty restaurant (just one table of 4 occupied). We took a seat and the waitress brought over the lunch menu. The cheapest offering was £14, baked ham, egg and chips or scampi and chips. I ordered a small glass of Sauvignon Blanc and we ordered the ham and scampi. The wine was brought over in a chipped glass (on the base) and the bottle had obviously been opened a few days ago. I didn’t complain at that point but if I had known the price, £7.50, I probably would have. The meals arrived promptly and I noticed immediately there was a problem with my ham. Although hand carved the edges of the two slices were dry and grey. I lifted off the top slice to see the slice underneath was also wet, sticky and grey in the middle. It also smelt “off”. I called the waitress back and said I couldn’t eat the ham for obvious reasons. She took it back and came back almost immediately saying “the chef says there is nothing wrong with the ham, he cooked it this morning, but would you like something else”. I was so taken aback with the response I just said can he do me egg and chips. She returned 5 minutes later with a fresh plate containing the original egg and 6 chips. I said is that the same egg and chips I returned, “yes” was the reply, the Chef has reheated the chips. So, I have in front of me a small, child portion, of stone cold fried egg and refried chips. I was hungry so ate this dismal offering and asked for the bill. Unbelievably I was charged full price for ham, egg, chips. Had to insist the bill was adjusted and it was to £3.50 for a bowl of chips and £2 for my egg. Was told to pay at the bar. At the bar I again said how disappointed I was, especially being served ham in such a condition. At this point another woman, maybe the manager, pulled the waitress aside and said there was nothing wrong with the ham, they cook a fresh ham every day and that I probably don’t know what a fresh baked ham looks like. How insulting can you be. I probably baked my first glazed ham before she was even born. I paid the bill, feeling ripped off and insulted. This was by far the worst dining experience I have ever had."
