"Asked if we could book afternoon tea for 4 as I was celebrating my birthday we were all very disappointed we were not expecting it to come out in the usual style of a cake stand and understood it was a takeaway the sandwiches were cut into 4 in each box to share the cake was 4 bar cakes just each slice cut into very small triangles not indulgent and apart from the lemon and elderflower the other cake slices were quite dry the sandwiches were lovely and so was the scone with jam and cream I was told by another couple after we had ordered and paid it wasnt good value and afterwards totally agree. Yes we are in a pandemic but after having afternoon tea many times in the tea room pre covid i would not buy again but instead of packets it would be nice to see afternoon tea presented in a box for each person rather than all having to share from the same box of sandwiches and the cake bars/slices just in packets"

Had a lovely lunch at this beautiful tea room today. I had gluten free tuna and sweetcorn sandwich with sides of salad and coleslaw and a beautiful gluten free Victoria sponge cake for desert. Will definitely return and recommend.

Afternoon tea was disappointing. Door stop sandwiches with crusts on, massive cheese scone and a couple of slices of uninspiring cake. For £17 a head I’d hoped for something a little daintier…at least cut the crusts off the sandwiches. Glorious building.

We arrived at 2.55pm. We waited until 3.05pm to be served. I asked for a sandwich, but was told that they had stopped serving sandwiches at 3pm. Later, at 3.30pm we witnessed some other customers who arrived and asked for a cup of tea. They were told that there were no more orders being taken because they were closing at 4pm.

The Tea Room for safety reasons has been relocated to a tent in the grounds........do not let this put you off!! The staff were so inviting and have taken much care in the socially distanced area. The menu is excellent for lunch and the home made tomato carrot soup was perfect.............Please pay them a visit. They deserve your support and you will not be disappointed!! View menu

Had a takeaway lunch as we had our furry friends with us. Friendly, efficient service. The sandwiches were freshly made and delicious. The Victoria sponge was gorgeous and rounded off with a cup of tea. We were under cover in the marquee as it was a drizzly day but it was a lovely lunch in fabulous surroundings. Well worth visit to the hall and grounds. Well done to all the knowledge and professional volunteers too. We will return.

I had a lunchtime snack but catching the eye of a waiter was difficult. Eventually I ordered a sandwich and a mug of milky coffee. The coronation chicken sandwich with white bread was huge. The trimmings included salad grown in the walled garden. I enjoyed the sandwich etc but then I had to catch the eye of one of the three waiters in order to pay my bill. Usually a waiter is allocated a groupof tables to look after but this did not apply at this tea room.

My friend and I shared an afternoon tea with a cafetierre My friend and I visited hoping for a hot lunch but they were only serving cold food. We shared an afternoon tea which was ample for our appetites. A good choice of sandwiches, a delicious scone and an extremely large piece of cake. The coffee was very tasteful too. We viewed the house which we found very interesting only to return to the tea room for homemade ice cream served with a homemade biscuit. Well worth the indulgence. View menu

We had afternoon tea for 6 for a family birthday. A lovely selection of huge sandwiches (sweet potato one our favourite), tasty scones and cake, with plenty of tea to wash it down with. Not a typical dainty afternoon tea but very generous portions extremely good value for £17 a head! Fruit scones and locally made tayberry jam were the highlight. Staff were lovely and had the perfect balance on being attentive but not overly so. Even packed up the bits we couldn't manage to take away. Highly recommended but don't eat too much earlier in the day!!!

I went to the Hall for the day I was so impressed as was my friend with the cleanliness of all the areas, particularly ladies loos....everything thoughtfully done e.g soap and floral decorations. The cafe was a delight, the food exceptional in flavours of the soup, sandwiches and later the cake. The best quality I would say I have experienced and I have had a lot of experience in eating cake particularly!!!! The presentation of the food on traditional crockery was charming. Staff gentley spoken and accomodating which made the whole experience a great success for my friend and myself. I would recommend a visit to Kiplin Hall for anyone many thanks for the lovely visit we enjoyed.

"We arrived frazzled because we drove around the grounds in the dark not knowing where to go. The signage inside the grounds is no help at all. Allow time for this if you haven't been before. Fortunately we had because we wanted a pre dinner drink in the bar before we ate. Even when we did arrive we weren't sure if we had arrived at the back entrance because we stood for ages with no welcome or acknowledgement. A very disappointing start to our evening. When someone did come they didn't take our coats. We went through to the snug for a drink. They gave us menus and went away. Later came back for our order. We got our drinks and ordered our food. Then very quickly afterwards we were asked to go through to the restaurant. We had only had a couple of sips of our drinks and it was still prior to the time we had actually booked our table for (7.30pm). We felt rushed. The food came and was fabulous. I had the beetroot starter which had beautifully cooked beetroots and some pickles. It also had a grain through it. I couldn't remember what the grain was so asked a member of staff. She didn't know so went away to ask and came back saying it was probably buckwheat....probably! My main was pork belly with parsnip and an apple reduction. The pork could have been cooked a little longer. I think belly needs to be very well cooked until really soft. The top skin was impossible to cut through as it was not crisp, I couldn't eat it. A steak knife would have helped. Having said that it was still a good dish which could have been excellent. We had sides of mashed potato and greens with pickles both superb. The presentation of both dishes was innovative and inviting. Portion size was good too not tiny portions of fiddled with food which I much prefer. The service was not as polished as the food. There was no obvious manager and we had different servers which is never quite as good as one for the entire meal. The servers were scruffy not appropriate for such a lovely building. Overall it was OK but could have been superb with more attention to some details. Service: 2 Location: 3"
