"I have been coming here regularly for over a year and in a city with plenty of great pubs this is a standout. Great atmosphere; friendly staff and locals; good range of beers and drinks and food; and always plenty going on with live music and quizzes regular parts of the calendar. As a bonus there is of course a small theatre upstairs with a constant stream of performances. The outside seating, both front and back, makes this a great warm weather destination. Even if I didn’t live nearby I would happily travel to visit the Alma. Tip get the Black Pudding Croquettes while they are still on menu, these are perfect with a pint!"

: So sad All those empty calories of mediocrity Don’t know why I ate the whole thing Now I’m fat and unhappy I wish I’d reheated the thing I have in the fridge from yesterday instead

It's 3:30 in the afternoon and Carol and I just finished a fantastic sirloin Sunday lunch with plenty of side dishes. The atmosphere was great, with a lot of friendly people enjoying their meals. Definitely the best experience! View menu

Not much atmosphere. Only one vegan option on the menu for lunch it was a lovely burger however. Staff weren’t very attentive and we felt as though we were troubling them. Could pop in for a pint in the future but only if we were passing by.

The food at this restaurant was exceptional, on par with what you would find in a high-end establishment. The cozy and inviting atmosphere of the charming pub, combined with the attentive and knowledgeable staff, made for a perfect spot to enjoy a rainy evening.

I was completely impressed by the quality of the food at this restaurant. The Frito Mistio was the best I've had outside of Italy. The onglet steak was excellent, and the chocolate brownie with salted caramel ice cream was superb. They also had a great Neckoil beer. I would love to keep this place a secret, but I just have to share my amazing experience. View menu

Big pub tucked away in Clifton. Friendly staff. Seats out back and on the street. Two real ales (Arbor and Butcombe) but no local cider as is common in most Bristol pubs. Delicious halibut with lentils and gnocchi. Great tiny little theatre to enjoy with 25% of food bill if you have tickets. The post theatre iced water was very welcome on a hot night at the show. Slight issue with the food order but they recovered well. A good spot for drinks food and theatre.

Lively and friendly. Had meal before seeing performance, however, a gathering of people came in and overwhelmed music, other people speaking or even hearing yourselves speak. We asked if they would asked them to turn the volume down but was met with a withering negative. We weren’t the only ones. They have to separate Friday night whoopydoos from those who are spending money to eat and see a theatrical performance, In other words you need to keep all your customers happy not just the rowdy crowd.

"Visited here in Sept 23 for an executive dinner that we were hosting for various senior business leaders. We booked out the whole venue, which was the perfect size and atmosphere for the intimate and exclusive feel that we wanted, plus a convenient location. The TV that shows into the kitchen was fascinating, and the record player was put to use towards the end of the evening! Caroline from the venue helped us organise the event in advance and was great to deal with. We were fortunate with the weather so were able to enjoy a welcome drinks reception out the front of the venue, and have the door open all evening to let the balmy night in. We had the 7 course taster menu and it was simply OUTSTANDING so many of our guests commented on how delicious it was, particularly the beef steak course! It was so tasty that I even enjoyed the fish dish (not usual for me! . Service on the night was exemplary, the courses were brought out at just the right intervals so you weren't waiting ages but also not being rushed. The chef came out to greet us after the final course, which was a lovely touch and meant we could thank him. Overall, we had really great feedback from our guests, everyone loved it thank you for making our event such a success! We would definitely book again, and I know a few of our guests have already recommended it to their own companies for executive dinners! Would not hesitate to recommend."
