"Went recently as a party of 5, including 2 grandchildren because this place is open all day and is dog friendly. It was a dssa[ointment to say the least. Thre of us had a Cheeseburger. The Burger was small, dry and was obviously not home made, or even made by a local butcher, and was topped with a cold, orange slice of catering pack cheese. The chiops were very good, but as usual there was enough on each plate to feed 3 people, with the assumption that if the plate is loaded, then you have had a good meal . Not true. It is just a waste of food! The giant Onion Rings were saturated with grease, and the only good thing about the meal, apart from the chips was the Coleslaw. The most annoying aspect of the meal, however, was the gentleman who was either staff or family, sat at the end of the bar, adjacent to our table, and spent the whole meal time listening in to our family conversation and butting in with comments of his own! Drinks only one bitter on tap and that was keggy John Smiths. Poor choice. Will not be returning! Will not be returning."

We called here after the Poppy Run for a pint and found everyone very welcoming and nice. The pub was very clean and had a nice feel to it. It also had Remembrance Day coverage and promotions on. Definately worth a visit View menu

You can't go wrong with the food at this restaurant. The pies and chips are made in-house and are delicious. The desserts are also excellent. Make sure not to miss Fish Fryday. I haven't tried the Sunday lunch yet, but the menu sounds great and it's a great value. I highly recommend this place. It's best to call ahead to make sure they can accommodate you for food, as the service finishes quite early.

We stayed here overnight while traveling around. This is not a top of the range pub. It has the lived in look about it. But it also has a friendly atmosphere , with kids toys around, a large outdoor covered seated area(settees). You should look at this as an extension of the owners living area. The food is very tasty, typical range found in most pubs. The ale was tasty and reasonably priced all round. Would we visit and eat here again? Yes, if we are passing again. View menu

We booked at last minute on a Saturday night and they got us in within an hour. The place has had a nice refurbishment. Fast service at the bar. Showed to our table. The beer was good. The food was good. In particular a few items were great. The chicken starter was fantastic. 2 of us had pie of the day, it was equally delicious. The chips are proper home made. Desserts where also a good size portion and delicious. All in all- great value for good pub food. Would recommend to all locally and passing.

Myself my partner called here for a Sunday dinner last weekend.. It was totally by chance when looking for a place to eat while passing by this area.. On arrival we were greeted in a friendly manner by the owners daughter, then the owner. After ordering food we were soon presented with our meals... We both ordered a roast beef dinner, though there were options of lamb pork. The beef was of a high quality, lean tasty.. The accompanying vegetables were fresh cooked perfectly.. Also a boat of 'proper gravy '. My partner couldn 't find room for a pudding, though she did 'help me out ' in eating a very tasty home made orange sponge with custard that had been recommended to me by the waitress... All i...

"Booked stayed at this place very recently having read the excellent reviews. As a very level headed person, certainly not delusional I failed in trying to recognise or match the place based on any of the reviews posted on Booking.com The place, whilst very quaint appealing from the outside is in direct contrast to the inside! In reality, it 's very much in dire need of deep cleaning, redecorating and refurbishing. The food, not sure who prepared the meals in the reviews I read, but fail to see how it could be the same chef as the one that cooked ours! Our meals arrived no less than 40 minutes after ordering. The drinks to occupy us while we waited never did arrive when our meals finally arrived served (if slapping on the table warrants being called served three out of the five items that made up the meal were uncooked, cold unedible! The excuse given by the waitress, is far too busy and understaffed, yet despite not being able to fulfil the job paid for, they still take fee paying guests who are treated far less than second class citizens to the regular clientele supping at the bar! Far too busy but not enough to stop them from taking longer than necessary to laugh talking to the regulars! Needless to say, we ate at other places for the rest of our stay. DO NOT BE FOOLED, as we were by the reviews, which have stayed are extremely questionable indeed! If one is used to using hostels I can see this could be deemed as good, if not excellent accommodation. On the flip side, if one is used to hotels that are clean customer focused then this hotel (a grand name for nothing more than a public house with accommodation not a very good or pleasant one at that is not the one for you!!"
