"Popped in here around 1.30pm to see if we could get some lunch. The next serving was at 2.30pm so we decided to wait. The bar area is warm and welcoming and the staff were friendly. We were taken to our table on time for the carvery lunch. It's a very small restaurant but nice and clean and comfy. The food was fine, it was freshly cooked and nice and hot. I think it was £14.95 per person it was Christmas lunch rather than regular Sunday lunch which was pretty good value. I'd visit again."

Went in for a sunday lunch odd reception and serving methods, bit like school wait till you are called. Nothing wrong with the food just not one of those places you determine to go to again

We have never been disappointed here. The staff are friendly, helpful and accommodating. We take friends with us on a regular basis. They go out of their way to make your meals how you would like them. Ps the chocolate nut sundae was lovely

I had an amazing breakfast at this restaurant after a great night. I ordered the small breakfast, but it was huge! I also added black pudding to my meal, which made it even more filling. The plate was packed with egg, bacon, sausage, tomatoes, beans, mushrooms, hash browns, and toast. It was all delicious.

The carvery is traditional good home cooking with cauliflower cheese, roast parsnips , roast potatoes, swede, cabbage ,carrots , Yorkshire pudding and chipolatas usually. The restaurant is clean neat has a homely atmosphere ajoined to a cosy pub with plush seating also wide screen TV and a gaming machine if you do not mind that kind of thing.

I have been coming to this restaurant for over 40 years, since the late 70s. I have seen it go from being extremely popular in the 80s, to struggling in the following decades. However, now it has undergone a huge improvement and offers a diverse menu that caters to most tastes. I recently met the new owner and will be trying out their Sunday dinner very soon.

Used the dining room for a buffet for 46 for my Nans 100th birthday, nothing could have been easier than dealing with a very helpful landlady. Buffet was good, staff very efficient and friendly and the bedrooms were a good size. Food in the restaurant the evening before was excellent and plenty of it. I would thoroughly recommend The Captain Howey for a private function or a quiet meal. Thank you.
