"My family and I came here for a gathering and birthday celebration. We were seated in the bar area in a slightly strange arrangement, with one person at the end of a separate bench. The waiter/owner offered to move us, but we were fine where we were. We had booked in advance and were surprised by the seating arrangement. We returned after a previous visit in the summer where we sat in a cozy side room, which I recommend for small groups. The pub overlooks a beautiful churchyard and has a rustic interior with scythes on the wall and examples of wattle and daub. It was warm and comfortable, despite being very quiet on a Saturday lunch. The service was a bit slow, taking 2 hours for 2 courses. The food, however, was excellent - well-cooked, well-presented, and hot. There was a good variety of dishes, including traditional burgers, spiced dishes, and vegetarian options. I had the roast duck, while others in my party had burgers, sausages, and ribs, and everyone enjoyed their meal. The desserts were just as good, with a good selection to choose from. The servers were polite and attentive. Overall, it was a very good experience, though I'm not sure how the service would be during busy times."

This fantastic countryside pub has the most welcoming locals and staff! The owner, Matt, spoke with us about the pub's history, boules, and its connection to the nearby vineyard. The food and drinks were excellent, and the atmosphere was superb. We absolutely loved it!

I had an excellent roast dinner today. I am quite particular when dining out for a roast dinner, but this one was exceptional! It was so good that I couldn't finish it all. The staff and owner were really nice and chatty. I will definitely be returning soon for another roast dinner.

A lovely, welcoming pub in a pretty location. There was loads of parking, and plenty of room in the attractive pub garden, complete with an outdoor bar. The staff were great, the food excellent and reasonably priced with good, imaginative vegetarian/vegan options. An excellent choice for a casual birthday celebration. View menu

2nd visit to this great little pub, again for lunch with friends. We ran a bit late, but we phoned ahead and they kindly put our reservation back 30 minutes. We all had three courses today, and we all enjoyed everything we had. Good menu, with vegetarian options, and a great range of drinks. Good team working there too, thank you all.

This was our first visit to The Castle Inn even though we've lived in the area for a few years. We had the trout pate to start, its a generous portion. For mains, we had skate wing and fish chips, again portion size is generous. No room for puds. Excellent service from a friendly team. We will definitely be returning, can't wait to try the bbq on a Saturday night and the roasts on a Sunday.

This is a favourite pub restaurant of mine. Three real ales from the locality on tap. A great selection of food from a delicious Sunday roast to classic pub specials. Now supplemented by the reintroduction of some delicious specials. I enjoyed the scallop dish and roast haddock recently. There is a beer festival on the eeekend of the coronation that I will be supporting and look forward to the summer opening of the pizza oven in the garden. View menu

This is a really lovely welcoming pub that serves a good selection of drinks in confortable surroundings. Staff are charming although a little inexperienced and inattentive, our waitress kept leaning over us to hand out menus and food and never returned to check food was ok or if we needed more drinks. The selection of beer, cider, wine and soft drinks was very good the lunchtime food however was a ok but a bit underwhelming . There were no specials so we selected from the main menu and the food was ok but the chips were more like fries and were very bland, as was the cajun potator wedges that came with an equally bland lamb skewer and really had no cajun spice. Desserts were a lot better an...

What a great find, we couldn't fault the Castle in any field. Lovely food well prepared and presented, and great friendly and attentive staff, especially the bubbly Lu-lu who looked after us admirably. The menu (boosted with some specials) isn't vast which means everything is fresh and prepared for that session, but what it has should meet the requirements of any diner. I ordered the mussels from the special list as a starter, served beautifully and we're superb, would be a credit to any French seafood restaurant. A healthy portion that for many could have served as a main meal. The two ladies opted out of starters and had fish and chips which was a sensible move as the portion was large and...

"Posting on behalf of PeterfromSandhurst, who was limited to only review per month. As I was of the people on this visit, I agree with everything that has been said and whole heartedly recommend the Lord Raglan for family visits. On to...the actual review. visit, this time with six people comprising three generations aged (that day) to almost We agreed that we would just keep ordering one or two plates every minute or so and share them so we could all eat the entire menu, a bit at a time. Over hours and plates of food later the results were in, we had eaten the menu! The clear favourite by show of hands (from the little ones and the ladies) was the sticky toffee pudding (no surprises there). Choosing favourites after that was very hard indeed as they were all good. The haddock was excellent with a close dense batter that was both light but substantial (don’t ask me how) and closely hugged the good sized piece of fish. It held heat well, tasted good (both batter and fish) and remained crisp until the last bite despite not rushing to eat it. The chicken (breast pieces in the sharing platter and the smoky spicy thighs dish) were also great. Moist, very tasty but the thighs a tad spicy/smoky for the children (the smoky hit is pretty instant for a kid) but the adults all loved them, the crunchy crusted breast fillets were loved by all. The ribs were moist, delicious, plentiful and fell apart simply by looking at them. The meat board (usually a shared starter) scored highly again with the juicy pork leek sausages beautifully finished with scorched crispy skin just like the very best BBQs can manage but still wonderfully moist inside. Pulled brisket very juicy, still not sure what they use instead of butter but it works perfectly. The Korean chicken burger with kimchi was a hit with my wife (she hadn’t had kimchi before) leaving a nice afterglow without any blast of heat. She just read this and said “The sausages were delicious, I really liked those, next time I go, I am going to have sausage and mash”. Well that’s her bit done. Oh, and by the way, it was steak day (every Thursday it seems), and the steaks come as a package with chips, a sauce choice and a drink (soft or wine etc) at discounted prices, so we had a few of those too. Ordered medium rib eyes, held our breath, and low and behold medium rib eyes arrived (well done chef! And eat your heart out Miller and Carter). So if you are sick to death of places that can’t cook a steak properly, try here. I hadn’t eaten Mac and cheese for years but tried that too and found the cheese was great, had a real intense depth of flavour and lovely grilled crusty edges (that you pick out of your teeth for the next minutes mmmm). If you have the time to spend a few hours mid week with people you love in a quirky but relaxed atmosphere you could do worse than try this tasting menu approach to culinary socialising. The Staff could not have been more accommodating, despite the unconventional nature of our visit. Thank you Beth and Leah, you did an excellent job. I made a couple of remarks on my first visit about how I might improve things if I was permitted to stick my oar in and again. Bang, they had been implemented just two days later. Amazing stuff Lily (boss), you are a star. Any kitchen that consistently turns out dish after dish like this one does, has something going right. See you again soon."
