"We booked, turned up a little early and had to wait a while for someone to seat us. There was one other table occupied so not sure why it took so long. The eclectic style was interesting if a bit chaotic. We sat at an old wooden table with feature chairs but I had to swap mine as it was really uncomfortable and not very well upholstered. We waited quite a while for service for each course, surprising as there was a max of 3 tables occupied at any one time. The food was good. Not exceptional but good quality, tasty, well cooked and presented. My partner's favourite course was his very good steak (locally sourced), mine was the fabulous cheese at the end the cheese itself was very good but all the extras were really interesting and different. The waitress was pleasant but we did feel as if the whole place was running without enthusiasm. No attempt at any personal touch or chat. No rudeness either. But given that so much effort has gone into the decor and fittings being so different and the food and reputation are so good, it felt a bit flat."

We recently visited the Dial house for lunch with our 2 young kids and had the most amazing meal. When it comes to food my husband is hard to please, we both had lamb with a few sides and it was all delicious. The actual...

We booked this hotel on two criteria, its AA rosettes and being dog friendly. Hotel lovely, but I doubt the AA would be handing out plaudits if they had eaten when we did. The slow roasted pork belly was extremely fatty with no crackling. The...

we had a great welcome Sunday, taking advantage of the sunny lunch/stay deal. what can i say? the room was gorgeous, the friendly welcoming attentive staff and although it was a hot day, the best Sunday Roast we have ever eaten and that's saying something! coming back in three weeks!!!

Birthday Sunday lunch with my family, there were 7 of us. On arrival the dining area was not exactly warm and unfortunately as the temperature dropped outside so did the temperature inside. We normally would have finished lunch with a coffee but decided to go home for coffee and to warm up. There was a woodburner in the dining area but no-one was looking after this and it had gone out The food and service was great but the cold restaurant did spoil what should have been a nice Sunday lunch. My advice is only go when the weather is warmer!

Having read good things about the Dial House we were looking forward to our Sunday lunch here but it proved to be very disappointing with us walking out after waiting an hour for our main course (which never did arrive! . We were on time , the order was taken promptly and the starter came quickly. There was then a long wait for mains and in spite of reminding staff nothing arrived. Frustrated we upped sticks , paid for our starters and drinks , received a half hearted sorry from a young lady at the front desk and headed off in search of a farm shop with our day’s plans ruined. I guess we won’t be going back. View menu

Really disappointed. After a wonderful experience last summer, I booked it for my mum’s birthday. Despite it not being busy, everything took forever. It took over 3 hours to have a roast and desert. It took ages to have our order taken and it felt like we’d been forgotten about. When the food came it was all ok, but the wait was infuriating. And, when it was time to pay, all the staff had already got their coats on or sitting down eating themselves. We felt like an inconvenience. After recommending the place to so many people as my last visit was so lovely due to the quality of food and service, I’m a little embarrassed if this is now the norm.

I haven't actually eaten here because, although on May 28th we made a reservation on-line for Wednesday June 8th, which was confirmed by email from the Dial House on the same day May 28th, today Sunday 5th June at 8.43 am, three days before our expected reservation they rang to cancel it. Their excuse was that they no longer serve lunch on Wednesdays. This is obviously untrue and they were not honest with the reason for blowing us out at such short notice, we checked on-line and nearly every Wednesday this month is booked for lunch. They then sent an email confirming the cancellation, with no apology, proper explanation or anything. We feel badly let down as we were having lunch with friends...

"Where do I even begin? The service from the woman behind the bar was shocking. When I inquired about dairy-free options for my son, I was told that nothing could be modified and that they don't cater to allergies at all! I pointed out the menu's claim that they could accommodate such needs, but my concerns were met with an eye roll. I then tried to order him some chips, but was told they were fried in the same oil as dairy and meat products, and since we are vegetarian, that wouldn't work. I asked about the vegan dishes, only to learn that they are also prepared alongside meat products, so there's no guarantee they would actually be vegan. At this point, my daughters had already become excited about eating out and the play area, so I reluctantly decided to go along with it and ordered three sandwiches on granary bread and a child's fish and chips. My son had a packet of crisps. When the sandwiches arrived, they were absolutely terrible. The cheese and onion sandwich consisted of two slices of cheap store-bought bread, some pre-grated cheese, and a few onion slices—without even a hint of butter! It certainly wasn’t inexpensive; we paid £45 for four soft drinks, three sandwiches, and a child's meal. As for the play area, it was concerning—there were sharp screws poking through the wood chips, loose sharp fixtures on top of the slide, and a large exposed electric cable under the swings! We decided to leave swiftly; it was such a disappointing way to end our holiday, when it should have been a lovely final meal before heading home. I was appalled by their attitude towards me—I felt like an inconvenience. The food was awful, and I genuinely recommend avoiding this place if you are vegan or have allergies; even if a dish is labeled vegan, they certainly don’t take the necessary precautions to keep it separate from meat products. It’s truly unfortunate, as the location by the river is beautiful, and we were all so excited to be there, but we left feeling very disappointed. We definitely won't be returning."
