"We booked, turned up a little early and had to wait a while for someone to seat us. There was one other table occupied so not sure why it took so long. The eclectic style was interesting if a bit chaotic. We sat at an old wooden table with feature chairs but I had to swap mine as it was really uncomfortable and not very well upholstered. We waited quite a while for service for each course, surprising as there was a max of 3 tables occupied at any one time. The food was good. Not exceptional but good quality, tasty, well cooked and presented. My partner's favourite course was his very good steak (locally sourced), mine was the fabulous cheese at the end the cheese itself was very good but all the extras were really interesting and different. The waitress was pleasant but we did feel as if the whole place was running without enthusiasm. No attempt at any personal touch or chat. No rudeness either. But given that so much effort has gone into the decor and fittings being so different and the food and reputation are so good, it felt a bit flat."

Most of the restaurants in Norfolk have good food and this is no exception. Not a big menu, the food is nicely presented. Well done chef. Three course dinner for 2 will set you back about £90 sans booze and service charge.

We booked this hotel on two criteria, its AA rosettes and being dog friendly. Hotel lovely, but I doubt the AA would be handing out plaudits if they had eaten when we did. The slow roasted pork belly was extremely fatty with no crackling. The...

We picked this hotel for a special meal to complete our week on holiday in Norfolk. We were not disappointed. The menu was modern, a little different and the food good and beautifully presented. Service was attentive and polite and we were made to feel...

Some friends who live nearby treated us to Sunday lunch. We thought the situation was beautiful and the outside area lovely. As it was unseasonably warm we had drinks outside. Perfect! The inside was wonderfully quirky and our young waiter was a delight, efficient but...

Attended for a wedding. Strange atmosphere as the place has been sold and due to be renovated but bookings were being honoured by staff who had been made redundant! Lots of bare walls and unwanted items lying about. BUT food was excellent, the staff were friendly and helpful and the espresso martinis were good!

We’ve eaten here before quite a while ago so our expectations were high. The greeting greeting and place seemed to have something missing. No atmosphere and sticky tables, thr menu was sparse and then to be told two of the remaining dishes weren’t available really narrowed the choice down. The excuse was the place was being refitted and basically the owners were running everything down, not our words but the staff ! The food served was quite poor for taste quality and value, chicken dry fish over cooked. The bill had the tip added on which we paid because we thought at least the staff tried their best in strange circumstances. We certainly won’t be back who ever takes over or refits the plac...

I haven't actually eaten here because, although on May 28th we made a reservation on-line for Wednesday June 8th, which was confirmed by email from the Dial House on the same day May 28th, today Sunday 5th June at 8.43 am, three days before our expected reservation they rang to cancel it. Their excuse was that they no longer serve lunch on Wednesdays. This is obviously untrue and they were not honest with the reason for blowing us out at such short notice, we checked on-line and nearly every Wednesday this month is booked for lunch. They then sent an email confirming the cancellation, with no apology, proper explanation or anything. We feel badly let down as we were having lunch with friends...

First off the positives of which there are several. Lovely room in a quirky old building situated right in the middle of a picturesque market square. The food was very good and they obviously have a great chef. However overall we left feeling somewhat disappointed. The staff and organisation are somewhat chaotic, everything is a problem and you are left feeling like you’re an imposition. Unacceptable when they are charging the money which they are. From the moment we walked in and the lady completely ignored us despite there being not one customer in the place to the other staff who have very little cue what’s going on. It’s lacking a manager or leader that should be on top of it. The downst...

You know when you want it to be good , you really do and it isn’t and that disappointment sets in because you know on a different day it could have been ? Sigh. . Tbf the room was lovely, but the whole thing came crashing down like a house of cards when the old stale food terrine, and rubber leather overcooked beef wellington) and a narrative that carried through to breakfast too happened. Never have I seen an over promise of 3 rosette stars and an under delivery so apparent, especially at the price point. This is our experience. I don’t want to diss them too much because they were polite far more than me now I’ve calmed down after speaking to their kitchen in the bluntest terms) . I think t...

"I decided to surprise my daughter and take her for a deluxe spa break . We couldn’t fault the afternoon tea and massages at the spa these were brilliant . We were very excited about our evening meal but left feeling very deflated . On arrival no staff told us what we could have with our package, we received the wrong drinks menu. After around 20 minutes someone finally came over and asked if we wanted a drink. We ordered and asked for tap water too . One of the drinks arrived but the water and other one never did so we had to find a young bar man who was rushing about and ask him . He was lovely and went and got them for us . After a long time of waiting bread and something in a little pot was plonked on our table , no explanation what it was , we thought we had got someone else’s starter . Finally we ordered our starters it was lovely but no spoon for my daughters soup so again we had to search for staff , plates took absolutely ages to be collected, mains came finally after 1.5 hours. It was lovely but the atmosphere was bad as other customers were getting fed up of waiting too. Finally got dessert and after we finished we sat patiently waiting for our plates to be taken and bill given ,as a lot on the menu which we liked you had to pay extra for .I thought this was ridiculous thinking back how much this break had cost me . After staff walking past us and ignoring us and the empty plates I had had enough and went to find someone to put it on our room bill . This experience was not the lovely bday treat I had expected for my daughters 21st disappointing is an understatement!!!"
