"Booked an overnight stay via Booking.com. On arrival to the George the Dragon, I had to pay an additional £98.10 in order to check in. Having made arrangements to visit family, I paid the extra amount. In total I paid just under £400 for one night 2 rooms. Booking.com insisted that I will receive a refund of this amount, however almost 3 weeks later all I have received from Booking.com are emails asking for more details and evidence of the overcharge. I have lost faith in ever receiving this money back. I will not use Booking.com ever again and I will return to Hotels.com now. At least I will be able to speak with a person rather than messaging or emailing a non-entity. Back to the George and the Dragon, it looks fine is part of the Greene King stable. We had 2 rooms in the Ardley Suite and they look good and it is a pleasant setting. However the beds are simply hard, not firm but how I imagine it might be, sleeping on a rock plus the pillows are very similar. Just like smaller rocks. The shower was a trickle of water that just about washed me clean. Lovely looking room and a big bathroom though. All rather period looking. We ate in the George the Dragon for dinner, it was passable and difficult to mess up a burger or ham, eggs chips. I requested the macaroni cheese but it was off the menu that evening. Instead I was served a plateful of macaroni with overcooked tasteless beef stew, I think. I paid £83.50 for 4 meals, no dessert, including 2 soft drinks. We certainly wish that we had stayed in another hotel or pub and eaten somewhere else. The cooked breakfast was rather small, one sausage, bacon, beans, a hard Hal tomato and some toast. I overheard one elderly gentleman saying, “it’s the worst breakfast I have ever had”, followed by an enormous belch! This about summed it all up."

Just been to the George for the first time since the new carvery menu was launched and have to say it’s a 100% improvement. Very very good value for money and recommend it for a lovely Sunday lunch!

Came here with my significant other for 2 nights. We served breakfast in the garden in the back just the two of us and I must say it was a pleasant morning with coffe, toast&jam. Sid, the owner is a lovely friendly woman, it was a pleasure meeting you! Will definitely come back, hopefully for the Greek Night. View menu

Staying in Long Medford for a couple of nights and popped in here for a drink. Great atmosphere and friendly staff. Discovered that the next night was Greek night at the pub, as the owners are Greek Cypriots we thought we’d give it a try. We weren’t disappointed , great food and good Greek Wine. Highly recommend it.

Family of 10 visiting the pub and having the Sunday carvery. Food was excellent with a good choice of meats and vegetables. Four meat choices (beef/pork/turkey/gammon) and plenty of choice for veggies. Large plate was 13.95 and small plate was £10.95 which is a great price considering what’s on offer. Will definitely go back again.

Absolutely disgusting sloppy school dinner type food which had obviously been microwaved too much! It was suppose to be a traditional Greek dish god knows how insulting to the Greeks. I think the herbs were in the Stiffaldo to disguise against the runny tasteless jus. Its been repeating on me ever since!! I certainly would not recommend eating here. View menu

We had lunch at the George and Dragon and they were very accomodating as they are very happy to serve the Children's menu to adults who can only small portions. We had a lovely experience which was mainly due to Shannon, who served us. What a lovely young lady. Talk about an ambassador for the establishment. Her manner was so friendly, welcoming and efficient. The George and Dragon wouldn't be the same without her. I do hope the boss appreciates her. The food was nice too.

Really funny vibe. Having eaten and drunk in this pub three times prior in the month before I came with my disabled mum and, stupidly, our dog... I thought Sunday lunch would be a nice experience. Nope. Told dogs not allowed in the bar website says dog friendly when I checked before driving ninety minutes to come on spec . Then told could sit at one of two tiny tables right by the door. But only after told we couldn 't even come in by older staff?? man! Three different male staff came and stood watching me manage my mum in a chair and our dog. Like we were some kind of sideshow. Locals giving us dirty looks. Food was average carvery . Trying to juggle two plates with every single thing other...

"I hope we were just unlucky, and I feel sad writing this, but it wasn't the best experience this weekend. We stayed overnight and had the tasting menu. The Creppy family are departed a while now, and the staff such as Henri that stayed on are long gone, they set unbelievably high standards which were always going to be hard to meet. We loved the room we stayed in, but the rest of the experience was a bit awkward. I feel sorry for them as it was super hot and it must be difficult to get staff at the moment, but when you have paid £500 for one night and food inc wine then things can be a bit disappointing. From the start we could tell that they were under the cosh, the manager was sick, and we were told repeatedly how busy they were tonight. We asked to eat 30 mins later than booked which they said would help. We ordered a half bottle of champagne but had to wait about 15 minutes as the fridge was broken at it would not be cold. It arrived and wasn't cold enough really, then after 10 minutes in the ice bucket it was. Simultaneously other guests were told the coffee machine was also broken. A bit of a shame as we were celebrating a birthday and it sort of spoiled the moment waiting for a drink. Then ordered a 2014 Pomerol which to be honest I found really rather average, but that is the luck of the draw. The food was quite good, but only one course impressed us, the trout was good. The staff seem very downbeat to the point of it being awkward, one told us and another table to make as much mess as we like as it was her last shift. Others seemed very awkward and lacking confidence/a smile. Again, hard to get quality staff at the moment, but there seemed to be a lack of pride/confidence in what is being delivered. I also asked for cheese to finish off, in the past they had a glorious cheese cart with a huge selection of great cheeses. I accept maybe it was too hot for this, but I was simply given a plate of three cheeses, no one asked me if I would like to choose anything or for example do I like blue cheese. Then when it was delivered my wife tried one of them, liked it so asked what it was, and they didn't know what the cheese was which is probably not what they aspire to. makes me sad as the cheese at the Great House is stuff of legend. More minor stuff: Breakfast wise the coffee in the percolator was way too strong even for someone who likes strong coffee, a tiny shot of milk was not enough so we asked for more, would have been nice to be offered hot milk to make Cafe Au Lait etc. Also another minor point, the soap and shower gels were quite horrible, they stick to you and don't wash off, not something I'm usually bothered about, but the half empty containers looked like they had be refilled with something not very nice, or it was just never very good. When we checked out I think the manager may have been back, he did not ask us once how our stay had been so we had no real chance to say anything. We tried to be understanding and of course being British nothing was really a problem for us, but when you've spent £500 for a birthday it was all a bit disappointing and not nearly up to par. I sympathise that it might have been a difficult night, but to be honest it would have come off better if I hadn't been reminded every few minutes that they were so busy and everything going wrong. I'm not even sure that they were that busy, the terrace was out of bounds and the restaurant was 3/4 full. Matters were drawn in to focus the next day when we went to the Weavers Spa, and also for lunch at the Crown in Stoke by Nayland, staff were cheerful, helpful and great at both of these local places. Sorry for writing this negative review which I feel sad to have written about a place we used to love. Rooms: 4 Service: 2 Location: 4"
