"The staff at this pub do change regularly under the watchful eye of senior staff member Becky but they all come up to scratch quickly and offer good service. There are two new chefs on the block now who are getting to grips with their new pad (Russell and Hugh). Russell was on duty when we went. Hubby and I ordered fish and chips from the Seniors' menu being the right sized meal for our appetites. It was so lovely, crispy batter over succulent cod, lovely chips, mushy peas (for me) and tartare sauce and a wedge of lemon such a delight to have this treat on a weekday. Well done and keep up the good cooking Russell, we will be back again this week to test another of our favourites on you!"

Sunday lunch with friends. Five of us visited yesterday, 3 had roast beef dinner, one had lamb shank and one fish and chips. All meals were superb and nicely cooked and presented. Jack and his team did well.

Treated a young friend to an ab fab Sunday roast (roasties could just do with a bit more crisping up) lovely gravy and veg cooked to perfection. Service was excellent thank you Ashley and the other girls on duty and a big thank you to Jack Rosario in the kitchen.

Very disappointed having been a local for a number of years and always by my son a meal, we were amazed when they told us they can’t take our order unless we had a booking! While I do understand if they were full but the pub was no where near full. Shocking and now time find another local pub who actually values their customers.

Having looked at the menu, I was looking forward to this meal as it looked like there was a good veggie choice. However, I ordered the veggie tacos and my friend ordered the chicken tacos. The veggie option was just basically a load of onion It was poor. Thankfully I had ordered halloumi fries and added them to the taco making it average. Disappointing overall.

The garden makeover is nice. No grass though, feel like a bit more green needed out there. Halloumi and avocado salad awful for the price, just awful. Halloumi was fried to within an inch of its life, snapped into bits, no avocado either. Burgers seemed ok. Not sure I want to try other things tbh if it’s going to be wasted money. Drinks good, service good as usual.

"I wondered why this restaurant described itself on the board outside as ‘fusion’, why there were so many Korean dishes on the menu and why the serving staff have heard of Asahi beer but haven’t heard of The Asahi Shimbun, a Japanese daily newspaper that is at least 50 years old. The answer is that the Akasaka website isn’t being completely honest when it describes their Northampton branch as a Japanese restaurant. They aren’t really Japanese, although some of their menu items are clearly Japanese. Don’t let that put you off, however, as they are serving excellent food and we enjoyed our meal there very much. It cost us about £70 (inc. 10% tip) for our meal for two people including a 175ml glass of Sauvignon Blanc for my lovely wife and two 330ml bottles of Asahi Dry for me. The sushi was excellent, the edamame beans were great but we didn’t feel that the Dolsot Bibimbap (a Korean dish with loads of rice, some shredded vegetables, prawns and a fried egg on top) offered very good value for money at just under sixteen pounds. We would recommend Akasaka in Northampton and would certainly go there again, but if we want a genuinely Japanese meal, prepared and served by Japanese staff, then we will be sticking to Ginza Restaurant on Wellingborough Road in Northampton. Don’t like the way that the male members of staff at Sakura on Bridge Street speak to their female colleagues, very disrespectful, so we avoid that Japanese restaurant nowadays. Great to have a choice of three Japanese restaurants in Northampton post-pandemic, and our favourite of the three is Ginza."
