We sometimes go here for brunch and it is always really good quality food, nicely presented too. The prices are not cheap but the high quality of food ensures that the price is justified. More frequently we go for morning coffee and this is always up to standard. The inside area is nice, but we prefer to sit outside on the terrace. The tables are socially distanced and regularly wiped down. The staff are always friendly and efficient.

Visited here last Friday as couldn’t get a table at our usual brunch spot! Food was good, by good I mean it was enjoyed but definitely not good enough for the prices charged! £3 for a cup of tea is a lot! Staff aren’t the best, don’t really seem to know what’s going on, and look at you like you’re a bit crazy if you ask for something!? Probably wouldn’t go back but if you’re willing to pay almost £30 for 2 breakfasts then this is your place!

Finest food, well cooked in ambient surroundings. This cafe is a fresh and healthy food venue. You can eat guilt free. The food is fresh, locally sourced, and the cafe is owned and run by a local chap with real flair. The venue has always been the most tastefully decorated. The prices are higher here than other cafes but you get what you pay for. It really is an excellent venue. Staff, too are friendly, professional and efficient. Highly recommended.

Like some of the previous reviews I completely agree that it is over priced £5.20 for two mugs of tea with just tea bags in the mug and no sugar, sweeteners etc. Waited for over 40 minutes for our food order to arrive and gave up and left just paying for the tea. They do state on earlier reply that they learn from reviews but do not seem to have done so yet. We did go there on a recommendation so perhaps they were just having another bad day but I doubt I would return in the future. So sorry as I did have high expectations.

Stood waiting outside Roots at the 'please wait here to be seated ' sign for a full 5 mins whilst being completely ignored by 2x young 1 older female waitress. They scurried in out of Roots clearing plates serving seated diners but we weren 't acknowledged with even a nod of the head. Even the girl serving coffee next to the window made eye contact could see we had been waiting a while, but still no service. Despite me saying 'excuse me ' twice to get the waitresses attention. Basic hospitality rule (acknowledge newly arrived customers) clearly hasn 't been taught to staff at Roots. Very disappointed. We won 't be returning.

Absolutely shocking don't bother twice food came up burnt. I had a small amount of scrambled egg and half a slice of avocado and 2 toast No drink, it cost nearly £10. Just recently I went again to see if it was any better but NO. They never have many breakfast items so I got eggs any which way. Ordered a coffee two fried eggs, got one slice of sourdough, tiny pot of avocado and the eggs came up greasy and hard boiled I was livid as this mess cost nearly £16 would have ordered scrambled eggs but without a minor amount of cheese they are tasteless. Excellent Food and Super Service. Remembering how much I'd enjoyed the food here on my last visit to Upminster, I stopped here again for a late lunch with my partner. As we walked in, I noticed the restaurant was unusually quiet. The young lady at the counter told us the kitchen was closing in 2 minutes. Most restaurants would simply have told us we were too late and that is what I was expecting. Instead, she called to a colleague to tell the kitchen to wait. What an absolutely lovely place to have brunch. Met a friend a few weeks ago on a Monday for a spot of brunch and a catch up. Luckily we had glorious weather as we had to sit outside (COVID restrictions) but I’m so glad we did. We were given a couple of menus and it all sounded lovely. I already want to go back and try other things. We ordered some coffees, so happy they do oat milk. The coffees were lovely and tasty and I really want to try their super lattes next time. I visited this place with my friend who has been here many times and said how great it was. We must have turned up on a bad day as the service we received was shocking. After we ordered we were asked a minimum of three more times by different members of staff 'have you ordered? ' to which we replied yes every time. Time passed whilst we were chatting away and we realised it had been an hour since we ordered and people that came in after us were eating. We flagged down a member of staff and were eventually told that one of the team members allegedly asked us 'have you eaten? ' instead of 'have you ordered 'and because we replied yes apparently our order was thrown away and we were left to sit...
