"We have been frequenting this pub for many years, but after moving away, we decided to make a special trip back and were not disappointed. The owners have recently added a beautiful self-contained holiday let called the "Snuggery" in the old part of the pub. Vic and Paulette, the owners, gave us a warm welcome and showed us to our room, which included a lounge, kitchen, and a lovely bedroom with an en suite bathroom. We were then invited to the bar where we caught up over drinks before enjoying a delicious meal. Both my partner and I ordered the steak and ale pie with perfectly cooked vegetables and crispy chips. We ended the meal with sticky toffee pudding for him and cheesecake for me. The service was friendly and attentive, and the staff went above and beyond to make us feel welcome. After a few more drinks, we retired to our room for a restful night's sleep and woke up to a cozy log fire and a freshly cooked breakfast in the morning. Needless to say, we did not want to leave!"

My father stayed here last weekend while waiting for his house to be renovated and loved the hospitality, the room and the little extras such as milk and coffee. He said it was 5* so that’s what I’ve given it! View menu

I stopped by on Friday, August 11th, 2019 for a meal. The owner was very hospitable and the food was delicious. I would consider this restaurant to be one of the top options in the area. The only downside was that they only offered bottled beer, although it was a selection of good local ales. I will definitely be coming back.

We have used The Holywell many times over several years. We have seen the ownership change, both good and bad. But none would compare with the excellent present ownership. Vic and Paulette have done a great job with the improvements they have made, both inside great ambience and out, and the food cooked by Paulette is delicious the best Sunday roast in the area !! we spent a week near and ate every evening. I can safely say that was the best restaurant to miles. eating was incredible, all made home, fresh and super tasty. yes, it is a tad £1 more expensive but the quality is worth it. we had a choice of food, but I must mention that the dauphinoise kartoffels were so delicious. an excellent restaurant with great staff that they have pressed us without reservation, although please book! . I wish it would be closer! the trip is worth sure.

that is for those who are not, a hidden gem. when they get it from outside, it looks like a normal average village pub. at the arrival in a beautiful warm welcoming place. its all except the way it is decorated with all bits and benches and the lighting it turns the place into a cozy atmosphere. the staff is very pleasant and eating and drinking is very good. I recommend you book a table in advance, as it is a very popular place. if they are in the opposite and have some time on their hands, it is good to book a table, there are not many places like these around, I hope they will be surprised how we were when we were in this beautiful place, it makes to be a beautiful evening, I am sure that...

"Shocking dining experience! An absolute travesty!! This used to be a superb pub (service and fayre); in the days when its exterior was adorned in a lovely duck egg blue, in keeping with it’s wonderfully quirky name. Stood at the bar we were ignored by the 3 members of staff engaged in private conversation. After a few minutes of awkwardness, we had to ask for some service. The menu (which had suffered more than it’s fair share of spillages) was not very extensive (only 3 grill choices). The wine menu was poorly constructed of single sheet papers squeezed into a narrow binder, not easy to open and peruse (it fell apart in my hand). The wait for food was substantial and our 2 sirloin steaks were under par. Not very hot, too much fat, and under cooked but still a weighty price at £24.00 for 8ozs. We weren’t asked if everything was ok and given the poor staff patronage, we lost the will to complain! I ordered a second glass of wine and was alerted to a conversation between two members of staff who couldn’t locate my order. So, one advised to ‘just give him Malbec, as it’s already open’. I hadn’t ordered a Malbec but it was poured and they gave it to another member of staff, without telling him it was the wrong wine. He duly apologised but much uncomfortable toing and froing ensued, while we were trying to eat, to locate the wine I had ordered which was to no avail. Staff clearly lack managerial direction. A disappointing experience; a clear demise of service and standards in this establishment, we couldn’t wait to leave! NOT recommended and will NOT be going back!"
