"Me and my partner attended this venue for breakfast today …. Upon arrival (10:15am) we were greeted to a beautiful venue but empty with no member of staff near the door so hand to wonder round the corner to find the staff congregating out of sight…. We were the only patrons at the time and took our seats. We were told that the venue had no Sourdough toast and only 1 muffin… considering 90% of the breakfast menu forms these items we were limited to a choice as there was no mention of a reduced price on any of the breakfasts that was meant to have sourdough toast due to lacking this premium ingredient… Coffee was just ok, a little over-extracted and bitter and they have no syrup options other than hazelnut (you would expect at least vanilla or caramel in a breakfast establishment too) We placed our food order of one “Anchor Royale” and one breakfast “flatbread”and waited…. and waited 15 minutes to then be told “sorry, we have no flatbreads is normal bread ok?” … a breakfast flatbread served without a flatbread and with bread instead is common called a fry up breakfast or “full english” …. Our food arrived and eggs were overcooked… and the flatbread miraculously not only appeared (probably found at the back of an organised kitchen freezer) but turned into a naan bread with a distinct indian flavouring with nigella seeds and other indian spices …. This is NOT a flatbread. Eggs on the Anchor Royal were not runny and jammy at best, the tarragon hollandaise was far too vinegary for the dish and needed some form of richness like a runny egg yolk to cut through it … couldn’t send it back due to being told there was only 1 muffin ! Basic communication with the kitchen and FOH is needed here to be given a complete out of stock list before the shift. Also the kitchen should be organised especially when there is no one else in the restaurant as 30 minutes waiting for a breakfast order when you are the only ones in is FAR too long! Kitchen also need to learn how to poach a soft egg… Felt that £30 was overpriced for what we received !"

Delicious breakfast and a lovely spot overlooking the marina.

Really disappointed with the menu choice. Service poor. Some friends enjoyed their meal but others did not. Staff were not ‘au fait’ with menu.

Great location at the marina, perfect on a sunny summers day. Really impressed with the vegetarian food options so refreshing to not be limited to pasta or risotto (yawn). Really tasty food, generous portions, great service thank you!

Took some people for some lunch. Food was very tasty and well presented. Very reasonably priced and decent drinks. Venue inside was clean and tidy and lovely view of the marina. Fair play to the two lads working today. Busy day but they absolutely ran that place like prime Xavi and Iniesta. I’d go back. View menu

Sunday breakfast: bad service (no coordination between them), food was good in the end, but I had to send my pancakes back since they were lukewarm, as was my bacon. The place was busy, but not full. 10 minutes after taking our order, the main waiter came over and said there were no more muffins and it was bread instead. No options given, no questions asked if we wanted to change our order, just a quick remark in rushing by our table. The whole place clearly is out of their depth. It seems there is no coordination or accountability. They could do with a good manager sorting that place out.

Walked in and were told someone would come to us to take our order, 30 mins pass and no one did. Then we moved inside to get their attention and still no one came to us. Meanwhile one of the chefs were helping themselves to a beer at 12:05 midday. We then finally got to order and were told they were out of coke before lunch service even began. Then when we went to order omelettes we were told that they were all out of eggs. The “Fanta” we were sold, which was orange juice and lemonade also costed £7. The staff were unhelpful, inattentive, and had lots missing on the menu. Overall a shocking experience and wouldn’t recommend

Disappointing. Have been several times before but today was definitely below expectation. On arrival we were told there would be a wait for food as you were busy. That’s OK. Our order was taken about 20 minutes after we sat down. What isn’t acceptable is about another 10 minutes after taking the order to come back to the table and say you have run out of muffins and I would get bread instead. Does the Kitchen not know how many orders it can fulfill at the start of service and communicate it to the service staff? When breakfast did arrive my husband’s pancakes were at best warm and had to be sent back. Place needs a manager to focus on detail rather than just rushing about fire fighting as pr... View menu

We had a large table booking on a Monday evening. We sat at 7pm, and didn’t receive our food until 8:45pm. Felt sorry for the new girl who was initially taking our order and delivering our drinks (it was her first night and she was given a table of 10, despite the rest of the restaurant not being busy! until another woman (assuming the owner came and finished our service. Everything was extremely slow from food order being taken, to drinks being delivered. This had been my experience on a previous visit and I thought it was a one off, but judging from this and some previous reviews clearly not. The redeeming factor was that the food was very, very good (except most of us who ordered steaks r...

Booked beforehand and arrived at 2pm for our booking. Drinks order taken but as restaurant clearly short staffed the guy who took the order had to serve everyone coming up to the bar whilst trying to get our order together. It was 2.50 pm before our food order was taken having been advised the delay was due to a large table of 28 pre orders being dealt with and once this was complete they would advise what food they had left!! Could not understand if the table of 28 pre ordered why this should be the case. No chicken and only two burger buns left! Which took a fair amount off the already limited menu. We were offered complimentary nibbles and the female staff really were trying to give us th...

"Checking in to a hotel in an unfamiliar place, it is tempting to book one 's first evening meal in the hotel 's restaurant (unless, of course, one has had chance to research the alternatives beforehand . This may seem a safe option, but is often a mistake, as it was on my visit to Ipswich. Had I only known that a minute 's walk along the quayside would have taken me to Mariners, I should have eaten there twice rather than only once! A floating restaurant can often prove to be a bit of a gimmick, but Mariners seemed to get good reviews so, on night two, I gave it a try. A beautifully restored and maintained Dutch customs gunboat from 1900, with gleaming brass and polished woodwork, the restaurant offers a limited, but well-constructed, menu to satisfy most tastes. Being aboard a boat, I opted for seafood, and was not disappointed. There being an R in the month , mussels were a good choice for my starter, followed by a seafood skewer , presented with just enough theatre to be amusing but not over the top. Not fine dining , perhaps, but well-prepared, nicely presented and very satisfying dishes at reasonable prices. A limited wine list, perhaps a bit on the pricey side, but the Picpoul de Pinet proved to be an excellent accompaniment without over-stressing the credit card. Service struck just the right balance between politeness and friendliness. My fellow diners embraced the whole age spectrum (I was by far the oldest! weighted perhaps towards the younger end, the common factor being that everyone (myself included was clearly enjoying themself. There are many other dining venues along the Ipswich quayside that my brief visit did not allow me to try, but Mariners can be recommended as a safe and enjoyable bet."
