"OK so this place is a bit tired and Rsy/Toy is getting on,but a great atmosphere. Partly die to Roy/Ray is a great character try his gin technique that works a treat xbd gets your night off to a great start. Really good value pub grub that shows a quality cook behind the standard menu Good selection of free donation books on the back. Support this place before it goes. Nice lunch with a friendly fast service! No modernised style coffee but a kind offer for separate hot milk to go with a cafetiere coffee to make a latte. Nice relaxing atmosphere. The food was very good.

We use the Major’s Retreat regularly, why ? because the food is great and the Landlord, Roy, is the friendliest nutter you will ever meet. If you enjoy a pint of real ale most are local and well kept. The Pig’s Ear is recommended, but dont have too many and definitely don’t drive afterwards. The staff are as friendly as the landlord, but maybe not as mad ?.... Some of the best pub food you will ever find.
