"Our last night in Brixham and we were undecided as where to go... Having read a few reviews and initially having our doubts we decided to chance The Old Market House. We arrived around to be told seating only downstairs as they were awaiting...staff and also no food until Now my first instinct was to leave and find another restaurant with having hungry children in the group. I was assured of a nice table upstairs at so we decided to stay and look forward to the views over the harbour while dining. Our children and mother in-law had fish chips, the wife and I had steak pie while the father in-law, who had wanted mussels all week went for the mussels. Our pies were really nice, a full pie with a bottom not a stew with a lid, the Broccoli was cooked to perfection with tasty mash. The fish and chips for the children were also very good, mother in-laws fish filled the plate and resembled a small whale Gluten free too with crunchy curled up batter! Now father in-law, who eats out a lot, got delivered a huge dished plate of mussels with what seemed loaf of crusty bread and chips. On finishing the lot and in his own words The best he has ever spent on a plate of food'. We were all very happy with our meals and agreed that over the nights where we'd ate out, this was undoubtedly the best. I will agree with some reviews that the drinks are a little pricey but I think the food makes up for this. Bit to much work for one waitress to do on her own, as we waited a little while for main plates to be removed, but then I guess you don't know what an out of season Tuesday night is going to bring. All the same thanks very much for such a good experience."

Visited twice while staying in Dartmouth, on both occasions met with friendly staff and great food. Try the mussels you won’t be disappointed. Good selection of ales and ciders.

First night in Brixham and we came here for dinner. The food was first class and the service even better. Our server Sam was brilliant, we will definitely return next time we’re in Brixham.

We had an evening meal here with our young grandson. My wife is a coeliac and was given a G/Free menu, from which she chose fish and chips. I had the same, but ordinary option and our grandson had the burger. All were well cooked...and filling.

our favorite crowd in brixham. always a warm welcome, beautiful staff always great eating. wellted that they don't have the ham-hock-Pate for my starter, but the huh, speck, cheese melt was amazing as always, with a few pints of rattler cider willed.

I visit the Old Market House regularly and I have never been disappointed! The staff are super friendly and very attentive. The Manager, Brendon goes above and beyond at all times and the food is second to none. I will continue to recommend the pub...to everyone.

The Old Market House was quite busy for a blustery Wednesday eve but we had a warm welcome inside. The pub was dog friendly, our dog even got some treats and the service and food were good. Sam who served us was very helpful and...the wait wasn’t too long for the food.

Wow! The hospitality, the food, the wine. I’ll definitely be revisiting as soon as. We had mussels and calamari to start and my partner isn’t typically a seafood fan. But we loved it! Brendon was incredibly welcoming and our waitress laura was very attentive. Lovely...evening!

Welcome to post Covid Britain where no one cares anymore. Website offered Sunday dinner booking so clicked the link to book Sunday lunch as advertised. Arrived at the pub early and was pleased to find the table available but when I tried to order the...great Sunday lunch I had booked, I was faced with excuse after excuse of why they could not serve it, even talking over me when I said that not only had they robbed me of a lunch but also any competing pub that were actually serving the great British stale that day. Suffice to say they couldn’t have appeared less bothered. As it was hrs it was too late to book in anywhere else. Will not return.

"From the off, everything was bang on point. The warmth of the welcome, being taken straight to our table and offered water and an aperitif promptly. We, a party of three, opted for the set lunch, which offers very good value for money. £29.50 for two courses, £35 for three, with two options for each course. Two of us opted for the baked Roscoff onion with pearl barley. Simple ingredients but beautifully cooked with a truly sublime brown onion sauce of such intensity, it lifted an already lovely plate of food to another level. The other person had the ponzu cured mackerel which she pronounced lovely but she had serious food envy over the onion dish. The main courses were grilled hake, which again was sauced to perfection and a grilled bavette with a vegetable medley and a pea? puree and a meat jus. We added a small dish of dauphinois at £5 which complimented everything very well. We drank a good and reasonably priced Rioja Blanco. No room for dessert sadly. This restaurant is not cheap but there is a difference between cost and value and The Elephant offers very good value with the set lunch; it allows you to sample really very good cooking at a price that will not break the bank. The normal a la carte menu is around double the price but on looking at what this offered, I would say that it again offers good value for money, being a step up in choice with more expensive ingredients. This is a serious restaurant. Go there. You will not be disappointed."
