"Call in for a pot of tea and excellent sandwiches. I had cream cheese and cucumber and my friend had the house twist on BLT. I was asked if my dog would like a treat and he was brought a sausage cut up, presented in a little dish. Large pot of tea to share which is quite unusual. The staff were friendly and welcoming and the food simple and good. This is the perfect place to sit and watch the world go by."

Lovely tea and cakes (we can recommend the cream scone and lime cake) in a friendly atmosphere. Owners made everyone very welcome including our dog, who even got a complementary sausage!

This is a small tearoom with a whole sideboard of tempting looking cakes. We had lovely huge sandwiches. Fillings very substantial. So much so we could not fit in a cake aftrwards. Right opposite Middlehame Castle too

By night it is a B&B during the day time its a tea room, that sells a range of lovely homemade cakes. Lovely owners. During my brief visit to the area (long weekend) as the tea and cake was so good I managed to visit twice !!! View menu

Just popped in for a light lunch before the Forbidden corner. It's quite small inside, but perfect. There were quite a lot of us the staff were super helpful getting us seated organised. The food was very good. The cakes looked nice too. It's also a B B we had a quick scoot at the rooms too.

Absolute must for a refreshment break. We had 1 1/2 hrs to pass before our booking at the Forbidden Gardens so quickly nipped in for something to eat. Wow. Amazing staff, very attentive and child friendly. Even guessed where we were going and asked if we were ok for time. Food was amazing and all freshly made. Can't recommend this tea room enough. We called in after a dog walk having read reviews that they we dog friendly. They are wonderful. The dogs got sausage within minutes of arrival! Service was prompt and extremely friendly. The food was excellent and the cakes to die for! We would definitely go back. It looked a beautiful place to stay as well judging by the decor of the surroundings.

This is the second time we've stopped here for coffee whilst driving through Wensleydale. The coffee and cakes are delicious and the owners friendly and welcoming. We had a conducted tour of the B B accommodation and were pleasantly surprised by the spacious rooms and excellent facilities. This will certainly be top of the list for an overnight stay when we're planning a longer visit to the area.

"We arrived frazzled because we drove around the grounds in the dark not knowing where to go. The signage inside the grounds is no help at all. Allow time for this if you haven't been before. Fortunately we had because we wanted a pre dinner drink in the bar before we ate. Even when we did arrive we weren't sure if we had arrived at the back entrance because we stood for ages with no welcome or acknowledgement. A very disappointing start to our evening. When someone did come they didn't take our coats. We went through to the snug for a drink. They gave us menus and went away. Later came back for our order. We got our drinks and ordered our food. Then very quickly afterwards we were asked to go through to the restaurant. We had only had a couple of sips of our drinks and it was still prior to the time we had actually booked our table for (7.30pm). We felt rushed. The food came and was fabulous. I had the beetroot starter which had beautifully cooked beetroots and some pickles. It also had a grain through it. I couldn't remember what the grain was so asked a member of staff. She didn't know so went away to ask and came back saying it was probably buckwheat....probably! My main was pork belly with parsnip and an apple reduction. The pork could have been cooked a little longer. I think belly needs to be very well cooked until really soft. The top skin was impossible to cut through as it was not crisp, I couldn't eat it. A steak knife would have helped. Having said that it was still a good dish which could have been excellent. We had sides of mashed potato and greens with pickles both superb. The presentation of both dishes was innovative and inviting. Portion size was good too not tiny portions of fiddled with food which I much prefer. The service was not as polished as the food. There was no obvious manager and we had different servers which is never quite as good as one for the entire meal. The servers were scruffy not appropriate for such a lovely building. Overall it was OK but could have been superb with more attention to some details. Service: 2 Location: 3"
