"It is such a shame that this once vibrant and welcoming charming village pub has been allowed to become run down . Opening when it pleases , sometimes not at all . We have known this pub for many years and it is heart breaking to see it barely trading as a pub . One wonders what the owners will do with it next . We stayed locally recently and in the whole week we were there it was open once , Thursday night 6pm-8pm . Really feel sorry for the locals , who always supported the pub , and for the many tourists who will be very disappointed when they arrive and find the doors shut . We even tried to contact the owners to ask when they would be open but they couldn't even answer . If you want a decent , traditional pub in the area try Royal Oak at Hornby ."

This restaurant is fantastic and highly recommended. The atmosphere, experience, and service were all lovely. The owners, Heather and Mick, were also delightful.

The restaurant is cozy and charmingly decorated with a nice beer garden. Although we didn't dine there, we had a delightful and inviting experience stopping in for a couple of drinks during our late Sunday walk.

The food was excellent , samosa was crisp and tasty. Malaysian chicken tikka was very good, spicy and much more interesting than a regular tikka. The staff were very friendly and it was great to have a chat afterwards.

Mediocre food, great and friendly service. The best part of the meal was a Brie and bacon salad. The Guinness stew had 2 pieces of meat, A3 pieces of carrot and 2 lumps of mashed potatoes. The gravy was tasty. The other dish was cabbage and bacon, over salty cottage roll and flavourless cabbage with some parsley and bland mashed potatoes. Best thing, amazing staff and service

We have a cottage in the village and regularly eat and drink at The Punch Bowl. Be careful: there are several Punch Bowls in the area make sure you visit this one in Burton in Lonsdale! So many village pubs have closed for ever. The village and its visitors are extremely fortunate that Mick and Heather bought the pub after it had been closed by the brewery. They and their staff are always welcoming, the service is excellent, the beer is well kept, and the food is unpretentious, but delicious.

Staying in the village went for a meal on the Wednesday evening. Our dog was made most welcome with a bowl of water a bowl of dog biscuits. The staff were extremely friendly helpful. I had an unusual starter of Morecambe Bay shrimps on a crumpet, most unusual but delicious. This was followed by by the thickest, most moist sea bass ever served with new potatoes green vegetables followed by a homemade mint chocolate mousse which was light delicious. My husband had chicken wings fish chips which was really good. Will definitely return if in the area again.

While staying in the village, we have visited this pub for a quiet drink on the last 3 evenings. The owners are very friendly and the atmosphere is lovely. They are exceptionally dog-friendly, even providing water and treats for our dog. The music playlist is great and we enjoyed a nice meal on Saturday night - simple but tasty scampi, chips, and peas. Although there were no vegetarian options on the menu, they happily prepared a veggie meal for my partner. The log burner in the corner added to the cozy and welcoming atmosphere. I would recommend this pub to anyone.

We’ve been staying in Burton in Lonsdale for a break, we called in on our first night for a drink, chatted to Heather the landlady who kindly offered to supply us with the coffee and tea I’d left in sussex when packing! our dog was provided with snacks and we had a lovely drink in the garden. Returned for dinner this evening, my guilty pleasure of scampi and my husband had fish and chips with the most delicious onion rings .. a few drinks and a really lovely chat with John front of house and behind the bar. Spotlessly clean and decorated. We were made to feel very welcome and if we lived locally they’d have seats with our names on! Thanks you !
