"To be fair, I realise this is pub food and not a carvery or restaurant, but our party of four were left unimpressed by the food, although the service was good. To begin with, we found the rectangular plates off putting and portions were very small. Had the lunch been served on a round dinner plate the small portions would have been obvious. My own lunch was cold and the roast pork looked and tasted more like smoked ham. Two of our party had sliced beef and were equally unimpressed, especially as the Yorkshire puddings were rather overcooked and dark looking rather than golden. Only the fish and chips of our fourth member looked and tasted good. The desserts, sorbet and rhubarb crumble were fine, as was the selection of wines to choose from. The pub itself looked clean and nicely decorated."

The food was beautifully presented! I enjoyed the soup of the day which was served with warm, crispy Ciabatta bread. For dessert, I had an apple cake with soy vanilla custard.

The Sunday afternoon was lovely, as always. We enjoyed it. The service was a little slow this time, as we ended up at the bottom for a change. We are usually at the top end near the fireplace.

My wife and I went for a relaxing evening meal or so we thought, unfortunate we were seated near the bar and because it was a Friday night there was quiet a few contractors in which was no problem in itself of course, I appreciate that the guys had been working all week and just called in for a few drinks, no problem there but noise and the swearing was just not acceptable, but when there are young children around and ladies it is not on. To be fair I did not mention this to the staff because they were very busy but I do think that there should be some limits. The result was that left a lot earlier then we intended and it spoilt our evening.

"From the outside, it looks like another tacky eatery in a street lined with tacky takeaways. Walk through the door and pleasantly surprised. A little deli counter, a back room then a garden. The garden overlooks a derelict abandoned overgrown garden. Not a problem, I am used to this in Athens. What is the problem, and I don’t see in Athens, tenants throwing rubbish out of their windows into the garden. It is ideal breeding ground for rats. The local environmental health should investigate, and if needed carry out enforcement action. To sit outside or not? Maybe too cool when the sun went in, and too hot if it came out as no shade. I decided to sit inside, near the back door. A red rose on the table is a neat touch. I was the only diner. Oh but we were busier earlier. Strange how I am always told, if you’d have been here when you weren’t here, we were busy. The menu was singurly uninspiring. Why panini’s? Everywhere does paninis. I have never understood why. Or pasta. The choice penne (which I don’t like), or spaghetti (which I dislike slightly less) I chose spaghetti Bolognese. It arrived seemingly quick. I was asked when I placed my order, did I wish for Parmesan cheese? It was added in the kitchen. Usually brought to and added at the table. Spaghetti Bolognese is not an Italian dish. It was an artificial dish with elements of North and South. The spaghetti mediocre at best, the Bolognese sauce excellent. I was going to leave but decided to stay. I chose tiriamasiu for dessert. Coffee, Illy, no thanks. For coffee walk to Madame Waffle or Coffee Aroma. I visited a couple of weeks ago, the previous week I found closed."
