"We had a fantastic dinner at The Westward. The restaurant offers a stunning view of the loch to the north and the Inner Hebrides islands to the west, especially beautiful at sunset. For our main course, we each enjoyed 8 freshly caught langoustines that were absolutely delicious. Despite the long drive to The Crinan Hotel, the experience was well worth it. The only downside was the lack of professionalism from the waiting staff. While some were clearly inexperienced summer students, a bit of guidance on proper etiquette from management would have greatly enhanced our dining experience. The wine we ordered was brought to our table already opened and poured, without the option to taste first. Similarly, when selecting bread, the server simply picked up the bread by hand and placed it on our plates without offering tongs or allowing us to choose for ourselves. These may seem like minor issues, but they detracted from an otherwise excellent meal. Despite this, I would still return to The Westward for the superb food."

The sea food as you would expect (and hope) is as fresh as it can be. The food and service in the restaurant is top quality.

We had the five course tasting menu on our second evening, delicious with wonderful views to accompany wonderful food! Wine also very good and not expensive.

We stopped here on a car rally for lunch. They served excellent soup and more sandwiches than we could eat. The staff were extremely helpful and accommodating. View menu

Top cooking that recognises that good ingredients don't need fuss or adornment. Quiet room with wonderful sea views, and service from charming and attentive staff.

We ate at the seafood bar not the restaurant. it was fantastic recommend the scallops. They serve white wine by the glass (choice of 4) and have peroni on draught. Very reasonable priced.

It was a more than 30 years since I last visited this area, it hasn't changed. The seafood was delicious well worth visiting, the staff superb very accommodating. You cannot get fresher seafood, caught that day. The Seafood Stew was plentiful, very tasty wonderfully presented. We were even invited to view the gallery on the third floor, also a must. Will definitely return. View menu

We had dinner in the beautiful restaurant but were truly disappointed not only by poor service but very average food. The level of service or indeed lack of it was most disappointing for a hotel of this standard. This due to complete lack of experience and total lack of supervision. For staff to be allowed to spend so much time talking and laughing with each other whilst ignoring the paying customers was an absolute disgrace.

We arrived at 6pm to find the restaurant was fully booked so we ate in the bar. The tables seemed crammed in to a small space and they were the most uncomfortable seats ever! The twice baked soufflé starter was good, but the smoked haddock I had for main course came on a heap of lumpy mash, swimming in melted cheese and so salty! We felt as if we were in the way nobody came to see if our meal was O.K. and we couldn't wait to leave.

"On our last day here, killing time before the ferry, decided to try luncheon here. No expectations either way. And we were TOTALLY wowed it was just excellent. Trying not to put too many superlatives in this review, but it was really, really ace. We had a lovely table by the window overlooking the harbour where you could see dog walkers, children in wellies, crabbing, and little boats coming and going. Classic Islay. Then I have to mention the food. Jeez, it was top notch, and huuuuuuuge portions. I don’t think we’ve ever had four such consistently generous and fulfilling portions before. We had the scallops (massive, juicy, plentiful , the Crofter’s Platter, which was cheeses, hams, sausage rolls, salad, bread, chutneys; the soup massive bowl, loadsa crispy sourdough bread, and the fish and chips which was so big it draped over the plate! All delicious. Our guy, Andrew, was superb, so attentive and smiley and always bringing us more things, spoons, drinks, more bread, spoons, he was great. And we had a lovely chat with the very friendly and nice proprietor. She was wonderful. Really seemed to care about the place and her team. She told us all about the hotel and stuff it was really cool. We will most certainly come back here next time. You can’t necessarily get the best table every time, but we won’t mind if we don’t! : Oh, also, lovely clean loos!"
