"We came to visit cleator moor in April for a birthday, we looked for places to eat and we came across this and drove straight past it as we didn't think it looked very inviting from the outside... We have come back a few months later for a return visit and after doing our research decided to try it. We are so glad we did the food is absolutely beautiful, what a gorgeous hidden gem, we liked the food so much the sirloin is amazing) we have come back the next day to eat again before we venture home Sunday. Like I say first impressions from the outside aren't the best, but take the plunge and go in. The staff and the locals are lovely , warm, welcoming and will tell you all the hidden gems regarding walks, places to go. 10/10 from us all round Moral of the story don't judge a pub by its outside appearance. Would rather give our money to small local pubs with amazing food and atmosphere than any big chain pub. We have certainly found our go to pub when we come back to cleator moor."

"I think vaga will always be my favourite restaurant. Me and the Mr visit here when we can and it is always really busy, the staff are always professional and nothing is too much trouble. I have asked the chef a couple times to adapt something with dietary needs they never take an issue. Vagas Sunday roasts are to die for and their duck in hoison pizza, wow off the chart."

"Visited after reading so many good reviews and was not disappointed. We were a group of five, one wheat intolerant, two strict vegans and two carnivores so when we ordered the waiter came back after five minutes and said that they add gravy to all the dishes which contains chicken stock so if we did not mind waiting the chef would make a vegan gravy for our Dahl, spinach potato, mushroom curry and vegetable madras and when it arrived it was very good. We were all impressed with the trouble they went to and would definitely highly recommend, great food and very friendly service thank you."

"A good selection of food, friendly staff and a sizeable dining area but be prepared for it to be busy! We visited on a Wednesday night and luckily we had booked ahead of time, the place was packed and I couldn’t see any spare tables very surprising but great to see for a midweek evening! The menu here is massive, plenty of choices amongst the many categories there’s definitely something for everyone! Unfortunately we had to wait around 30 minutes for our drinks food order to be taken, we were tucked away in the corner and given how busy it was, a bit of a wait is understandable. Our server was apologetic for the delay and she was very friendly, she also made sure our drinks came straight away to avoid further delay. Food came after around an hour, again a bit of a wait but the conversation and the atmosphere was good so we weren’t overly bothered about the time, like I said it was really busy so it’s understandable! The food came and the portion sizes were great, I went for the peri peri butterfly chicken breast, the chicken was cooked well but it did lack a little in the peri peri seasoning maybe a peri peri dip with this dish would be a nice complement. The chips were lovely and the coleslaw was really good too. I was very full after the meal and didn’t have room for pudding, the cakes in the stand definitely did look good though so I’ll have to make sure I get one next time! Overall, a lovely pub meal in a nice pub/restaurant and I would definitely recommend if you’re in the area! I will just add that the parking isn’t the best, the car park fills up very quickly and you may have to park on the street so keep this in mind if you are visiting during peak hours!"

"Nowhere else we tried had places on a busy Friday evening, so we needed somewhere nice urgently for an end of holiday dinner. Cleavers popped up on an online search and had places! Hoorah! Initially the plethora of menu and drinks sheets had us bamboozled. But the warm welcome and the excellent personal servce won us over very swiftly. One of had a yen for whisky cocktail a Manhattan not on the cocktail sheet. No Problem! They'd look it up and give it a go and sure enough a very credible cocktail arrived along with all the others, which were perfectly prepared and served, and delicious! There's an eclectic menu with a lot of variety, which isn't always a good sign. But No! Everything we ordered was beautifully prepared and served and very good indeed. We especially enjoyed the selection of tapas starters! But once again, the particular stars of the show are the proprietor and the staff. So friendly and welcoming and determined to ensure you have a great experience. Other restaurateurs could go along and learn a thing or two. It's the vital ingredient!!"
