"On Thursday 20th July, my husband and I celebrated our wedding anniversary by dining at our local Toby Carvery. Despite being married for 43 years, we felt it was worth marking the occasion with a meal at this convenient restaurant. While the food is not exceptional, it is satisfactory, although I must mention that the cauliflower cheese is consistently undercooked and lacking in cheese. I had made a reservation for 6:30pm through the online booking service, which was promptly confirmed. However, upon arriving at 6:15pm, we were informed that there was no record of our booking at The George. After waiting for 35 minutes in the bar area, we decided to dine at the bar instead. Despite the disappointing experience and subpar cauliflower cheese, we made the best of our anniversary meal. It is essential for the restaurant to improve the efficiency of their booking system to avoid similar incidents in the future. We were not the only ones facing issues with online reservations, as another couple had a similar experience and ultimately left to dine elsewhere."

I had made a reservation through OpenTable for Toby's restaurant, but when I arrived, they did not have any record of my booking in their system. I was not happy with this lack of communication.

Good food, great service, brilliant price. Server Brad was excellent as always friendly and helpful. Yet another good meal for our regular visits . My friend wS helped also by Tim the chef who kindly carried her plate of food to our table. Service aboveand beyond.

Absolutely shocking, worst customer service from a manager I have ever seen /experienced. As I myself have been in the hospitality trade for 15+ years I would be embarrassed and totally ashamed to think that one of my members of staff let alone a manager's attitude and customer service was totally rude and very unprofessional.

Thursday, 20th juli was my wedding day, after 43 years it may not have been much, but never the less we decided to have a meal in our local Toby-Carvery, it is close, convenient, and although the eating is not good it is acceptable (for which reason always the cauliflower cheese is always undercooked and always lacked in me (the cauliflower was from the usual garbage standard with negative cheese)! overall a disappointing experience for our jubileee, if they operate a booking service, then it must be efficient. the couple behind us at check-in had a similar experience after having booked on the line, there was no record that they did that, they went, and without doubt went to other place to...

I had dinner at a Toby Carvery restaurant with my family and relatives from Cornwall. While eating, we found a hair-like object on my partner's plate that turned out to be a piece of metal. We showed it to the waiter, who offered a 20% discount on our bill but no apology from the manager. We later moved to the bar area upon the waiter's request to clean up. An abrupt young woman then demanded we pay our bill without any courtesy. When we questioned her behavior, she refused service to one of my sisters and threatened to call the police if we didn't leave. As someone with experience in the restaurant industry, I found this treatment unacceptable and will not be returning to Toby Carvery. I wi...

We were heading off for a weekend away and decided to fuel up for the day with a breakfast at the Toby, we didn't book and easily found a table at 9am but by 10am most tables were taken so depending on what time you get there it's advisable to think about booking. We had a table in the bar area and you pay for your order at the bar and they give you your cutlery and cups if you have tea or coffee. You can gave as many hot drinks as you like as there is a station for you to help yourself. The food is at the carvery hatch and you help yourselves to what ever and how much you want, you can even have a big Yorkshire Pudding with your brekkie. All the food was fresh and hot and there is a toaster...

We booked table for 5 for breakfast! Firstly given dirty cups for our breakfast. Cutlery also dirty had to clean with our own pack of tissues. The food was overcooked unappetising I asked if anymore coming out staff said No!. Two pots of burnt overcooked sausages tray of solid eggs. Obviously not going to be thrown away? Bread for toast was still frozen. No cold drinks available without paying extra. Coffee was weak cold. Yet still paid full price for a minimum amount of breakfast. After just 10min sat down we were told food being taken away. I asked staff if we could have fresh coffee he made two at first than reluctantly made another two .We were than asked to move as needed our table? The...

"Visited on a busy Saturday evening. General impression is the restaurant is clean, well presented and evidently well liked for how many people were in the small dining area. A little noisy, particularly in the confined space beside the kitchen, when seated close beside a louder table. As the evening progressed, we felt quite cold not sure if the heating was on? Service from the staff was outstanding, very friendly, polite, attentive, but food was slow to arrive. We were a little perplexed by having the appetiser on the table before our starter/main order had been taken, so having to work around still having the menus. The smoked butter was very strong my partner liked it, it was too much for me. Both fish starters were good, with the mackerel our favourite. The main courses were OK. The lamb was fine, but served with lamb fat root veg meant the whole plate was very similar flavoured, and the green beans/salsa verde felt like an afterthought. The skate wing was nice, and the crispy capers were a new and pleasant experience. The desserts rescued the food for me the creme brulée was outstanding, and the chocolate special was very good, with exception of a slightly chewy meringue. I feel I'm being picky with my criticisms, but fig tree is definitely priced higher than other more standard fare restaurants in Plymouth where we have also had very good food."
