"We popped in for a light lunch and beer as we were passing and having heard there were new managers. In the past we regularly stayed for a couple of nights as the pub provided bed and breakfast and the beer and food was outstanding....On this visit the service and beer was good and we sat in the garden near the stream. Unfortunately there was no food on offer apart from bar snacks ie crisps etc or in a fridge two cheese rolls and two pork pies. Being hungry we paid for a roll each and a pork pie. My husband roll had two patches of green mould and he was reimbursed for this with no apology. My roll had been wrapped in cling wrapping for a few days but was stale and the pork pie pastry was soggy. One bad experience out of many such a shame."

A lovely warm welcome as usual from Gary Emma! So nice to return to this popular pub. Blessed this afternoon with their regular variety of live music, Chris Thomas a local singer song writer kept us entertained along with local banter. Thanks Gary ..Emma see yo soon!

I believe this pub was recently purchased by Heavitree after years of being neglected. I'm not certain about their food, but I was very impressed by the bartender, Kelly. She is knowledgeable and has a great relationship with the customers. We will definitely be returning.

We booked a three night stay, the place is filthy, and outdated, the after hours entrance/fire escape route was littered with debris/animal mess and dirty cages, we never stayed tried to get a refund 210) unsuccessful so far as the staff are rude and unhelpful dont...stay there.

We stayed at this restaurant for two nights and had a lovely weekend. The staff here are fantastic - very friendly, helpful, and full of energy. Breakfast was included in our stay, although the pub food is not yet available. Overall, it's a beautiful place with wonderful people.

Absolutely Fabulous pub to stay in with very friendly and helpful staff. It doesn't look much from the outside but don't let that put you off as it's a proper authentic pub with a great little garden to the rear, great selection of beers and ciders...and a wonderful atmosphere inside too. Room we stayed in was very comfortable and roomy with a very powerful shower. It felt like a bedroom in a Victorian house with plenty of character. Highly recommended.

The Vic used to be a vibrant and busy restaurant all week long. However, it has recently changed ownership and is now the most dull and uninteresting it has been in years. The staff are friendly and competent, but the atmosphere is lacking. There was a limited selection of beer, hardly any customers, and it felt like a ghost town. We visited on a Saturday night and there was only one other person there. Some local young people came in and were rudely asked for ID, despite being regular patrons. I recommend trying out the Exeter Inn, The Pfeife, or The Bayhorse instead, as they have a much livelier and vibrant atmosphere.

we had 2 nights in victoria inn. it is well located to visit dartmoor and surroundings. we, where in room 2/3 (there are 3 rooms in total) room 2 the bathroom is over the corridor, but there is a sign. that the bathroom is for the exclusive use of rooms to shower was brilliant. the bedroom, where pretty dated, but clean and large. the breakfast was very good. the pub and the business is in the process of selling at the time of our stay there was a holding agent who was very friendly and chatty. the prices in the pub was quite cheap the barmaid was beautiful always happy and happy. the local, where very friendly always like to chat.

Ruth and family have taken over recently and they clearly work really hard to ensure guests have a pleasant stay. We are a family of four and spent four nights there in two decent-sized double rooms on the first floor of what is an old...coaching house. Excellent value stay with a full English breakfast plus cereals each morning and a great base for exploring, at the southern edge of Dartmoor. Ruth, her son and his girlfriend were always on hand to help and also provide good local tips. Ashburton itself is a small town with a good selection of shops, cafes and pubs albeit a few had yet to re-open following the easing of covid restrictions. Good hospitality always makes a huge difference and...
