Whighams is a great place to go for drinks. The staff are lovely and the atmosphere is usually buzzy. For dining though, the jury’s out. It might have been a one-off bad day, perhaps the usual chef was away. It requires another visit methinks. View menu

Whigham’s is a very popular West End wine bar, featuring atmospheric wine cellar booths and showcasing a dazzling wine list. It’s smart, sophisticated and modern, but with more than a hint of old school class....Overall, Whigham’s is much as we'd remembered it: very hit and miss.

The fishcakes themselves were rather bog standard. They’re not as good as my mum makes. I’m not sure if perhaps it’s because I have the cold and my tastebuds are dulled, but it seemed to me that Whighams have really gone downhill since last year. The emptiness of the restaurant compared to last Feb was testament to that. I didn’t finish my fishcakes.

from the moment in which we went to the service was excellent and continued during our lunch we had two youngs under years with us and the staff very friendly shared a main course between them, since there is obviously no child menu. the eating was top quality and the selection of crying is absolutely first class with something that suits every taste and bag the atmosphere is relaxing and tasty. a must visit wine and eat when in edinburgh. Christmas pudding served with brandy butter. the Christmas pudding received mixed reviews. it was paleable, but it was seemingly unpudding like. and as it was the presentation was not good dec, trio by iain j mellis' organic scottish cheeseses with oatcakes. the bee and the pastry cakes were a hit, with the blue bee received special praise. but really can't go wrong the mellis cheese dec, mango passionfruit crème brûlée. the crème brulée was bad. very bad. it was burned. the crispy sugar layer was more cement-like and the rich and creamy crème was thick and almost teig. it was so bad that I couldn't eat it Dec...read more

another voucher deal (we seem to have had some of these late), this time for whighams. a colleague at the work had said that the deal seemed to be good. So, a friend and I decided to go. the deal consisted of a starter and a main plus a glass prosecco for two, for I have never been at whighams before. the venue is well established and lies directly at the charlotte square. in the inner it has two different areas. one is all I suspect, tick and tear, and the other section is much more modern. we have been taken part in modern times for our dinner. the waitress who served us was very pleasant and helpful. my partner and I only spend a magical weekend in edinburgh, but unfortunately whigham’s was certainly not the highlight. Although it seems very promising, with beautiful decoration, a good atmosphere and welcoming and efficient employees, it really lets us eat down. I ordered the cullen skink, which was warming but not aromatized. the starter of my partner was the best we ordered. our main dishes of fishcake and chili huh were missing taste again. my fish cake tasted almost inconspicuously from my suppenstarter and the chili huhn was extremely mild. we ordered a pinotgrigio, which was expensive for a low quality bottle, and we did not hang around after eating. it is a...read more View menu
