"This restaurant had caught my eye several times when passing by. Cool and kinda retro style looking restaurant. Bistro meets funky bar. Finally decided to try it out and having checked the menu online knew what we were getting into, yet with high expectations. Upon arrival we were given a nice table at the window. Service was friendly and we promptly received our aperitifs. We decided to go for a three course menu with goat cheese, beef tartar, sirloin and pike perch. Unfortunately the dishes lacked seasoning all the way through. Goat cheese, although referred to as chevre chaud, was cold. Radishes didnt have any flavour and no acidity. Probably because they had layed in water for quite some while. The vinaigrette tasted purely of oil. No refined hazelnut tones or the sweetness of the elderflower. The tartar was ok but could have used some spunck. I liked the roasted wheat which was a nice accent. The sirloin was dreary and kinda sad to look at. The sear was terrible and it looked like the meat had been wrapped in foil to maintain its cylindrical form which meant it hadnt received any heat on the side. Sad to say, it was tough too. The port wine reduction was so intense that it drained everything on the plate. The pike perch was on the other hand delicious. Nonetheless, when leaving the skin on the fish it should be crispy in my opinion, which it was not. All in all it was not the meal we had anticipated."

Mixed menu of seasonal ingredients. Beautiful atmosphere when a touch damped (our table for two had almost touching our table).

Simple unpretentious place but with very special food. We enjoyed all the dishes we ordered and the White Onion Soup was especially delicious.

Das vegetarische Menü war eine Enttäuschung, ein trockener Linsenburger... schade, Fischmenü und das fleischmenü waren gut. Bedienung eher unpersönlich.

Will definitely return! Food was excellent, 2 starters, 2 desserts and 4 mains plus 2 bottles of wine cost CHF300 (very reasonable by Basel standards). Service was great- relaxed and friendly- the restaurant itself was stylish and cosy. Apparently there's another room upstairs, will check it out next time!

Freundliche Bedienung. Die Männertoilette bedarf dringend einer Renovierung.

I didn't plan ahead and found this place last-minute through the Michelin Guide website. It's situated in a residential neighborhood away from the bustling Basel boulevards. This probably adds to the surprise within. It seemed to catch the staff off-guard that I showed up without a reservation (note: make reservations!,) so they seated me at the bar. The service was excellent, attentive, and despite the language barrier, quite helpful. The bar server let me order one menu item at a time, walking me through their dishes. I recommend the herbed polenta and their grilled vegetables. The wine list and liquor selection is varied enough to find something that pleases everyone. The atmosphere is cozy...

Nice little restaurant in Kleinbasel. Don't necessarily go over the weekend or reserve early enough - otherwise you eat in shifts. Friday evening we could get the table only for 2 hours. Very small card but go for the menu surprise (3, 4 or 5 courses) 4 courses 70 CHF, green pee soup with salmon was very good, then we had porc which was not good (very chewy and not cooked well,) one dish with duck and various herbs was very good, desert strawberry sorbet with delicious chocolate mousse and crunchy nuts. Service could have done better (especially the blond lady middle age) she was not very focused and while explaining each course she welcomed guests and did not look at us - so it was a bit le...

"Cheval Blanc is the ultimate classic French fine dining experience in Switzerland. We came here to celebrate my birthday while in Switzerland looking for a 3 Michelin stars experience. Located in the historical Grand Hotel Les Trois Rios. The riverside setting is charming and romantic. You start by a welcome drink at the terrace looking at the Rhine greeted by suited , polite and professional staff. The head chef Peter Knogl came to say hi before we moved to the main dining room and service started. The decor and interior is classy retro French with high ceilings, arches, classic chandeliers, large windows and round tables with candles. Ambience is warm and intimate. Service was top notch and impeccable. Staff were all knowledgeable with refreshing attention to details. Cuisine was modern french with Mediterranean influences, flavors were complex and dynamic. Ingredients were chosen carefully and courses were presented beautifully. I liked all of my courses, highlights of the menu were the Sardine Macaron, Langoustine curry, Red Mullet filet and the French saddle of lamb with mediterranean flavors. Wine pairing was excellent and enhanced every course taste and flavor. Sommelier was very professional and knowledgeable yet intimidating a bit. The French Cheese selections from Maître Antony in Ferrette was aromatic, rich and satisfying, Maître Antony is one of the best in the world that many Michelin starred Chefs get their fine cheeses selection from. The night ended well with a couple of delightful desserts courses, few delectable bites and some velvety chocolate. Overall, we had an elevated fine dining experience that will bring me back if in Basel again."
